DAVID WALTER BARLOW June 1, 1950 March 12, 1950 After a brave battle with cancer David passed away at home on Monday, March 12, 2012. David was predeceased by his father Walter Barlow. David will be missed and lovingly remembered by his spouse Anita and her son Trevor (Marcie), grandsons Jordan, Dylan and Mason and son Brendan (Vera) and granddaughter Sara. Left to cherish David's memory are his Mother Kay, sister Sheila and brother Greg (Heather), sons Michael and Trevor. David will also be greatly missed by Anita's father Louis, sisters Carol (Robert), Mona and Penny (Klaus), brother Kevin (Alison), sisters and brother-in-law, Stanley, Linda and Gail, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and foster children. David was also loved by extended family members Bill, Carole (Gordon), Nancy (Elliott) and their families. David was born in Ottawa and lived in a number of cities in Canada as his father was in the forces. He graduated from Carleton University and established lasting friendships with a number of people he got to know as he grew up. David settled on a career with the Federal Government and accepted a job in Winnipeg in 1980, where he remained and retired after 32 years of service. While in Winnipeg he married Anita, became an instant Dad and was warmly and lovingly accepted by Anita's family. Grandchildren soon came along and David enjoyed being a grandparent. He adored all his grandchildren and was very proud of all of them. We attended many of the grandchildren's events in their lives, followed their hockey and football games and David enthusiastically helped coach both Dylan and Jordan's football teams. He took Mason many times to the Children's Museum and spent time playing games with Sara. David always had an extremely positive attitude, a ready smile for everyone, loved to read and attended courses at either the University of Winnipeg or Manitoba. For years David and Anita attended Goldeyes baseball games both in the old stadium and their new home. David had his favourite sports teams the New York Giants of Super bowl fame and the Toronto Maple Leafs enough said. David enjoyed helping out each year with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. He was happy to be back this year after having missed last year with his cancer treatments. David was there for the first week, then his health deteriorated and he was not able to return. David will be missed as he was a great resource person. A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba who were a big part of David's life as he underwent treatment there. A special thank-you to Penny and Mona who pitched in when help was needed. Thank you to family, friends and church members who kept David in their prayers. Cremation has taken place. A service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Lutheran Church on the corner of Grey St. and McCalman Ave., with Pastor R. Kruesel officiating.
