EUGENE (GENE) FONTAINE October 20, 1944 - April 2, 2012 Unexpectedly at home with his wife by his side, Gene Fontaine, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away in the early evening hours. Gene was predeceased by his father Eugene, mother Stella and his mother and father-in-law Pauline and Myron Kupchuk. He will be forever missed by his devoted wife Brenda, of 41 years; daughter Kimberly (Mike) Lewicki, son David of Alberta, brother Cam (Linda). He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Peyton and Adam Lewicki all of Winnipeg, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Gene was married on October 17, 1970 to the love of his life, Brenda, and together they made their home in Transcona. Gene started his career in construction as a sheet metal tradesman and later as a metals instructor for the Province of Manitoba at the Selkirk Training Plant. He then moved to the Department of Labour as a Health and Safety officer and after 35 years retired. Gene was an honest, aggressive and no nonsense union activist showing commitment and dedication in his efforts to represent his union in many positions he held over the years. He loved animals and truly believed that dogs were man's best friend. It has been said that you can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gene's life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue West at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at a later date in the Transcona Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Gene's name to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Rest in peace my love ...Brenda Funeral Arrangements In Care Of WHEELER FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY CREMATORIUM 1800 DAY STREET 224-1525

Gene, was a dear friend, always caring and making sure others were taken care of. His caring showed up in many ways. I will always remember him and to call him my friend...and I will truly miss him. Even with distances between us we still managed to phone and catch up...He was always wondering how my family and I, along with our dogs... were doing...again caring for others, as he did...Brenda my heart, prayers, and thoughts go out to you and your family at this very difficult time...he was taken from us too soon... love Les - Posted by: Leslie Welling (Friend ) on: Apr 06, 2012

Gino will be dearly missed in the days ahead. His hearty laugh, his many jokes, and his childish grin when around all kids was a joy to hear and see. Gene loved to work hard and hard he worked as he took pride in the many projects that he built for the family. His knowledge of so many things that helped us in our lives, and his willing spirit to help out at any time and every time. Our love for Gene will never diminish. Christ's comfort , peace and never ending grace be upon the family. Love Don and Iris - Posted by: Don and Iris Kupchuk (Brother and sister-in-law) on: Apr 06, 2012
