MARY CARBONI September 13, 1936 - March 31, 2012 It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Mary Carboni, beloved wife of Alfonso on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at home with her family. Mary's zest for life, positive attitude and determination came to a sudden end in her brave battle with cancer. Mary was born on September 13, 1936, in Winnipeg, and her memory will be cherished by her beloved husband of 52 years Alfonso, her three children, Alfred (Belinda), Vincent (Sandy), and Theresa. Also left to mourn are her three sisters, Anne (Peter), Dorena, and Victoria, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and very close friends. She was predeceased by her mother Sofia and step-father Michael. Mary grew up in Winnipeg in a family of four girls, being the second oldest. She went to school at Tec Voc. During the "fifties," and in 1952, Mary, one of "The Gems" met the love of her life, Alf, one of the "Bristol Boys" at Ollies cafe, and when that magic moment occurred they have been together ever since. Mary worked at a young age of 16 to help support her family and her first job was at Eaton's. From there she went to Royal Glen Denning and then Safeway Ltd. Alf and Mary were married May 9, 1959, at Holy Rosary Church on Sherbrook. Mary was extremely knowledgeable and excelled at everything. She chose to stay at home providing a loving home to her husband and three children. She always told people her greatest achievement in life were her children. Mom and Dad loved to travel, and fulfilled all their hopes and dreams together. They enjoyed an active social life with their close friends and family. Every summer in the sixties and seventies, when we were children, Mom and Dad would rent a cottage in Grand Beach where we all have fond memories as a family. They vacationed in California, Hawaii, Nashville and many other trips. Mom loved the excitement and fun in Las Vegas. She especially cherished the family trip there to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Even though Mom lived with arthritis, she never complained and would not let it slow down her and Dad's active lifestyle. Her natural ageless beauty would light up a room wherever she entered. She had an electric smile and a memorable laugh. Mom had the unique ability to make everyone feel special. She was great at telling interesting stories and keeping you informed of everything because she enjoyed reading, especially current affairs and lifestyle events. Mom loved to shop and with an eye for style, always dressing beautifully and with detail. Mom was always there for us and always encouraged our own independence and to be whoever we wanted to be. Although we are broken hearted at the immense loss of our Wife, Mother, Sister and friend, her spirit will live on in all our hearts and memories forever. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Bard, and the doctors and staff at CancerCare MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Arthritis Society of Manitoba. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mary's life will be a private Catholic family ceremony at a later date. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550
