Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNANCY ROSE WILKINSON It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Wilkinson on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish Nancy's memory are her dear friend and lifelong companion, Kay Froese, her brother Bill (Eleanor), sister-in-law Lil Wilkinson, one niece and four nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Lucy, and her brother Roy. Nancy was born in Emerson on November 3, 1925, and grew up on the family farm in Ridgeville, MB. In 1955, she moved to Winnipeg and began nurse's training at the Grace Hospital, which is where she first met Kay. A wonderful friendship developed and they graduated from nursing in 1958. Compassionate and caring, they nursed in Winkler, Selkirk, and Winnipeg at Concordia Hospital until retirement. Nancy enjoyed travelling, attending church, taking pictures, watching wildlife and working on puzzle books to keep her mind sharp. She loved to read and to keep current on world affairs. Although she lived in Winnipeg all her life, Nancy never forgot her country roots, often visiting family and friends in Ridgeville. She loved the outdoors and puttering (relaxation therapy) at the cottage on Lake Manitoba (Moosehorn). A memorial service in celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Chapel, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., with viewing at 10:30 a.m. A reception has been arranged at Glen Lawn, with a private family interment to follow at South Ridge Cemetery, Ridgeville, MB. Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Nancy's pastor, Pastor Terry Sawatsky, Elmwood MB Church, for his compassion, support and for officiating at Nancy's memorial service. We have considered Nancy as a part of our extended family for many years. We have wonderful memories of visits, walks, camping and a trip across Canada. We will miss her quietly-determined, gentle manner... a wonderful, classy lady with a steady faith. Loved her little smirk when Kay would get upset about a minor detail. Never heard her say an angry word. Our sympathies and prayers go out to her family and especially Kay. We know we will see her in heaven someday. Nancy was my Auntie Kay's best friend and room mate for their entire lives pretty much. They also both worked as nurses. Because they lived in Manitoba, and I was born and raised in BC, I wasn't able to spend time getting to know either one. But I considered Nancy like an Aunt to me and she was part of our family nonetheless. I know my Auntie Kay will miss her terribly and my heart goes out to her during this horribly sad time. I'm sure she's in a much better place, as the world is a trying place to live. My best wishes go out to Nancy's direct family members and anyone who was close to her.
