  • Uncle Ernie was a great guy as well as a great uncle to myself and all my siblings. We was a true friend and great supporter of our family. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Dan Klein (Nephew) on: Apr 18, 2012

  • Ernie was a real character, sometimes you didn't know what was going to happen next, but it always came out right anyhow. Will miss him. Always remembered to talk to everyone at the reunions. - Posted by: Cyril W Taylor (Regular RCAF Com Tech Air served with 402 1959-1964) on: Apr 17, 2012

  • Well Ernie, you certainly left a legacy that will undoubtedly stand the test of time. Good leaders are hard to come by and the Squadron was so fortunate to have had you as Commanding Officer of the Wing. I am sure that I can confidently speak for all the Squadron members of your day - it was a pleasure and a privilege to have served under your command. Salome said it perfectly; when all hell was breaking loose and cutbacks were a reality and money for operations was tight you never batted an eyelash, just told us to keep on flying missions and you would look after the money and that you did. You never gave us any cause to worry. I have a sneaky feeling that you may have stretched protocol on occasion but that's what makes a good leader, he looks after his troops. I would have gone to the ends of the earth for you Ernie. God speed my friend. Although I will miss you I have many good times to remember. A lot of us from your era are not far behind. See you soon. - Posted by: David Houston Maj (ret) 402 Squadron (Friend/ Fellow Officer) on: Apr 16, 2012

  • Without a doubt, the very best Comanding Officier of 402 Sqdn. ever and the most personable man I have ever met. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Dennis G. Bailey (Former 402 Sqdn member 1958 - 1972) on: Apr 16, 2012

  • My condolences on the passing of Ernie. He was a great leader, loved working for him. I remember coming into his office and telling him we were coming close to the end of our budget, and might have to cut back on spending for 402 Squadron. He said "Salome when the hell did you ever hear about the Government running out of money?" I said "Sir it is my job to let you know our financial position." He said, "thank you". We continued working and the funds came for other Squadron's who had cut back. Great leader, great person, thank you Ernie for letting me work for you, I enjoyed every minute, we will miss you. - Posted by: Ronald W. Salome (Friend/Fellow Officer) on: Apr 16, 2012
