ANTHONY PAUL POPIEL
Date of Passing: Apr 20, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTHONY PAUL POPIEL Our family regrets to announce the sudden passing, after a brief illness, of Anthony Popiel at North York General Hospital on Friday, April 20, 2012. Born on October 3, 1942, Tony grew up in Transcona. Running on a platform of devilish charm and rugged good looks, Tony was elected president of Transcona Collegiate Institute school council. He parlayed that success into a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Manitoba, which he then turned into a 30-year career at IBM. Joining him for the ride was his bride of 42 years, Kathryn (Kay) Popiel. Tony was a computer analyst by trade, but he was family man by heart. From the forks of Winnipeg to the bays of Balsam Lake, Tony looked at life with a quick wit and a heart of gold. He spent his all-too-brief retirement getting up early to watch curling and play with his grandkids. He leaves behind many friends, but closest to his heart are his wife Kay, and their children Natasha (husband Mike), Alexandra, and Nicholas. Nat and Mike's boys Holden and Bodhi are going to miss Gido Big time. Also survived by his mother Nancy, brother Jerry (Anita), sister Phyllis (Ken), and the rest of the Winnipeg crew. A memorial service was held for Tony in Thornhill, ON, on April 23. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the search for a cancer cure in whatever capacity you can.

My sincere condolences to Kay and Tony's extended family on his passing. I worked with Tony and shared an office with him. A nice guy with a caring heart. He would make me laugh and join in with this fake laugh, which only made me laugh more. - Posted by: Sue (Co worker at IBM) on: Feb 02, 2017
