MARGARET PETERSON (nee LYNCH) February 10, 1930 - April 29, 2012 Peacefully, with family by her side, Margaret passed away at home at the age of 82 years. Margaret was predeceased by her first born child Nancy, on February 11, 2010, her only sibling Jim in 2005, and her parents Martha in 1980 and Bill in 1952. Left to cherish her memory are her husband George, her daughters Pat Burtney (Arnold), Alison Griffith (Gary), her son-in-law Hutch Lawson, and many friends and extended family members. Margaret was born and raised in Fort Rouge where she spent her first few years at her Dad's knee during the Depression. Margaret attended Lord Roberts School with her best friend Evelyn and upon graduating from Grade 9, pursued a career at The Canadian Wheat Board. It was there that she formed many life long friendships including those in the Sewing Club, which met every second Wednesday until last year. Upon becoming employed at Brathwaite Wholesale Drugs, Margaret met her handsome husband through her soon to be sister-in-law at the 1953 Christmas party. Margaret and George were married on July 29, 1955 and welcomed daughters Nancy in 1956, Pat in 1958 and Alison in 1961. Sons-in-law Gary, Hutch and Arnie were welcome additions to the family in 1986, 1988 and 1997. Family meant the world to Margaret and it showed in everything she did. Preparing for and cooking a meal for her family no matter what the occasion, at home, at the cottage or elsewhere was rewarding and entertaining for all. Besides cooking, Margaret was accomplished in several other fields including sewing, stained glass, petit point, knitting, crocheting, home décor and furniture refinishing. She easily shared her skills with her daughters, sons-in-law, neighbours, and friends and was always thrilled to see a finished project no matter if she contributed to it or had encouraged it. From familiar to obscure surroundings, Margaret was always able to adapt and find the fun within. We will miss her and her ability to ground us now and forever. We love you Mom! We wish to thank Dr. Van Jaarsveldt, primary Palliative Care nurse Kate, and Palliative nurses Stella, Anne, Stephanie and Paula. You all were a tremendous help to us providing information, guidance and the most wonderful, heartfelt hugs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Margaret's honour can be made to The Salvation Army Prairie Division or to The Winnipeg Humane Society. A memorial service is being held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with Marianne Propp presiding. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date. Until we're all together again. So sorry to hear of Margaret's passing. I remember getting together with family in my younger years. Margaret's mom was my Dad's (Carson Gregg) Aunt Matt. My Grampa McNaughton was a P.O.W. in Hong Kong with Margaret's husband George. Thinking of old times... - Posted by: Eileen Findlay (nee Gregg) (Cousin) on: May 04, 2012
