MARY ELIZABETH THOMAS (DAVIDSON) -
Date of Passing: May 11, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ELIZABETH THOMAS (nee DAVIDSON) 1925 - 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Mary Elizabeth Thomas, who passed away peacefully with family by her side, on Friday, May 11, 2012. Mary is now joyfully reunited with her dear husband John, who predeceased her in July 1983, as well as her parents Jim and Margaret Davidson, her brother George and her granddaughter Deanna Marie Thomas. Mary leaves to mourn her passing her seven children who will miss her dearly: Patty, Bob (Lynn), Margaret Rand (Dick) (Punta Gorda, FL), Don (Helen), Ken (Calgary, AB), Cathy Johnston (Glenn), and Rick (Melanie). She is also survived by grandchildren; Allison, Christy (Kevin Ploegman), Scott (Lauren) Thomas; Rick, John and Bob Rand; Chris (Hayley), Dustin and Dylan Thomas; Caitlin and Patrick Johnston; Adam Thomas. Mom was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Anders, Marika and Anika Ploegman. Mary was born on election night, October 30, 1925 in Crescent Hill, SK, on the family farm. Her dad delivered her as the midwife was away voting. She had happy memories of her years on the farm with her three brothers, George, Walter and Willie and two sisters, Margaret and Janet. Mary met John C.D. Thomas while they were both employed at the Bank of Montreal in Prince Albert, SK. Once married Mom focused on being a homemaker, while Dad's long career with the Bank took them to various branches throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northwest Ontario. Mom had stories of all the places that they lived and recalled those days fondly in her later years. Mom was an excellent baker, seamstress, embroiderer, knitter, gardener and most importantly wife and mother. In later years, to pass time, she enjoyed scratch lottery tickets and was just as happy to win $2.00, as she was to win $50.00. She was an avid sports fan never missing the opportunity to listen to the Goldeyes or Moose games and always cheering for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. She remained active until her eyesight failed and she lost her mobility. Mom moved to The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg in September 2006. She enjoyed many special friendships with staff, residents and their families. We wish to thank all of the staff members who loved Mom and treated her as though she was one of their own. As Mom requested, a private family service was held Wednesday May 16. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Mom was a true blessing, a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother who taught us the power of laughter, honesty, fairness and perseverance. She was a strong, brave, and intelligent person who remained positive even as her world turned dark as her eyesight failed. Her passing has saddened us but we remain ever grateful to have been able to call her our Mom, Granny and Great-Granny. Bye for now. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715
