Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGE HURST (MAGNUSINA KATRIN SIGURGEIRSON) It is with heavy hearts the family announces Magnusina (Marge) Hurst's passing on May 14, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer. Marge was born on September 10, 1935 at Hecla Island, Manitoba. Marge was predeceased by her parents, Helgi and Ingibjorg (Emma) Sigurgeirson and brother, Brynjolfur. She is survived by her daughter, Tanis Mulder (Dan); son, Don Hurst (Karen); grandchildren: Alan Mulder (Jillian), Brooke Mulder (Eric Comte), Katie Metcalfe (Paul) and Steven Hurst; great-grandchildren: Noah and Luke Mulder; sisters: Vilhjalmina, Kristin and Gladys. Marge grew up on Hecla Island and shared many stories of her childhood and her Icelandic heritage. As a young woman Marge moved to Winnipeg to attend Business College and later worked at Imperial Oil where she met and married Allister Hurst. They settled and raised their family in East Kildonan and she often fondly reminisced about good times spent on Adamdell Crescent. Marge enjoyed her career working for the Aronovitch and Leipsic families for over 30 years. She retired to her condominium in Fort Richmond forming wonderful friendships in her new community. She was an active Board member of her Condo Association for over 15 years and served terms as President and Treasurer. Marge enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved her books and her neighbourhood library, a game of Scrabble and a glass of wine with her friends. She loved to travel and enjoyed her trip last Fall to New York City with her daughter and granddaughters. Amma cherished her relationship with her grandchildren and they loved receiving her unique cards and notes in the mail as well as her occasional contact with them on Facebook. Marge was a wonderful mother and Amma with the greatest sense of humour and will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Victoria Hospital Cancer Centre and 5th floor south, Victoria Hospital Pastoral Services and W.R.H.A. Palliative team for their compassionate care. Also thanks for the love and support from all her friends, condo family and from her nieces and nephews in Vancouver. A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, a donation to one of the above medical facilities would be appreciated. I have such great memories of her. She was such a great person. She was always friendly and cheerful, and if she ever had a bad day we sure didn't hear about it or see it in her. Loved to laugh, loved to encourage and give wisdom and help. Marge was truly a good person that anyone would feel privileged to have spent some time with. - Posted by: John Wiebe (Worked with Marge at A & L) on: May 28, 2012

Marge was truly full of life. Our whole family loved it when she came to Vancouver to visit. Marge and my mom (Kristin) would always spend many hours downtown, shopping, going for lunch, or just taking in all the sights and sounds. One trip I'll always remember is when we went to the west coast of Vancouver Island for a few days. One night, as the wine was flowing, Marge and my mom began laughing hysterically, uncontrollably at something probably trivial, and it went on for many minutes. It was great because I rarely got to see my mom in such a relaxed state, so enjoying the company and the setting. So thank you Marge for all you brought to our family. We will miss you. - Posted by: Norm Stevens (nephew) on: May 23, 2012

I regretfully acknowledge the passing away of Marge. She was a vivacious woman who lived her life to the fullest. Of the things that deeply etched her in my mind was her love of people. In conversations with her for over thirty years, she would often mention about people she met in the most innocuous of places, like waiting for or riding a bus, people from the far corners of the earth. Another interest of hers which endeared her deeply to me was her love for cinema. She would describe to me in enthralling detail, for example, the histrionics of Omar Sharif in Dr. Shivago or Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind. She will be deeply missed. I was very sorry to hear Marge had passed. I also had the pleasure of working with her for a number of years at Leipsic Insurance. We had many conversations; about the latest books we were reading, what was going on in the office or in our lives on any given day, or our shared Icelandic heritage. I can only agree with the other comments I have read, Marge was always such a positive and enjoyable person to be around. My sincere condolences to her family. Blessuð sé minning elsku Magnusina. Alltaf saknað, aldrei gleymd.(Blessed be the memory dear Marge. Always missed, never forgotten.) - Posted by: Penny Forbes (friend) on: May 18, 2012

My Aunt was a great lady. My best memory of her was the last time she came to visit and stayed with me. We spent countless hours at the end of the day sitting on my balcony, having our wine and talking about everything under the sun. Of course, lots of laughs were had. She always inspired me to live life the best way I knew how. I will so miss our emails and telephone conversations - really long emails and many hours on the phone, again talking about everything under the sun. I miss you Mag. - Posted by: Patricia Stevens (Niece) on: May 18, 2012

I worked with Al at Imperial Oil in East St. Paul and saw and spoke with Marge at the many company functions, and at other times. She was a lovely lady. - Posted by: Bob Wournell (Friend) on: May 18, 2012

Whenever I heard Marge was coming to Vancouver to visit (and there were many), I knew there would be at least one day/night that would be a lasting memory. We had similar senses of humor, and she and I would always have a good laugh. She amazingly would also get my dad laughing, which was a tough nut to crack. I'm so glad we had our recent Emails, once again, all filled with humor. I sure will miss her. I wish the good ones could stick around longer, the world would be a better place for it. - Posted by: Warren Stevens (Nephew) on: May 17, 2012

I met Marge at A & L in 1971 and although we didn't always keep in touch I considered her a great friend. If you ever needed a tip on a great book, you just had to ask Marge and she'd name several. Many people pass in and out of our lives, but Marge was one of those people you never forget. Marge had a great sense of humour and was one of the most positive people I've every known. I will miss her and offer my deepest condolences to her family. - Posted by: Pat Makinson (friend) on: May 16, 2012

I had the privilege to work with Marge after her 'retirement.' She would come in and help in the office once or twice a month and the days she came in, she brightened the office with her effervescence. She was truly 'young at heart' and a joy to have around. I admired her deeply and she set an excellent example of the power of positivity. - Posted by: Colleen Armstrong (Worked with Marge at Aronovitch Financial) on: May 16, 2012

Although I grew up in Riverton, I had never known Marge until we met at Success College. We used to socialize during our lunch break. I did see her several times over the years but we were both busy with our own lives and families. She was a lovely woman and I extend my sincerest condolences to all her family. - Posted by: Shirley (Stefanson) MacFarlane (Attended Success Business College with Marge.) on: May 16, 2012
