KATHARINA PETERS Katharina Peters left this world peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, and has been joyfully received by her Saviour just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Having never married and having no children, she was affectionately known among her extended family as Aunt Katie. Aunt Katie was born July 26, 1912, in the village of Bergtal, Russia, in the Mennonite colony of Molotschna. She and her family emigrated to Canada in 1925, and settled in Grand Pointe, Manitoba. Aunt Katie completed her schooling and went on to work as a housekeeper, a nanny and a seamstress in the city of Winnipeg, but her greatest passion ended up being researching and documenting genealogies for many Mennonite families. Katharina loved Jesus and faithfully attended church and Bible Studies at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, where she was baptized at 19 years of age, and then she later attended North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church. Katharina was the last remaining member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her father, Isaak Franz Peters, and her mother, Elisabeth Riediger, as well as her 12 siblings. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law Maureen Peters. There will be a celebration of Katharina's life on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. followed by a light lunch. Family members will attend a private interment. Family members would like to extend our warmest appreciation to the staff of Donwood Manor Personal Care Home for their tender and heartfelt care for Aunt Katie in the final years of her life, as well as to the ladies from North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church who faithfully visited Aunt Katie. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. - 338-0331 Condolences may be sent to www.klassenfuneralhome.com
