ELSIE BATER (nee GAMMER) It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Elsie Bater on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Misericordia Personal Care Home at the age 87 years. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Charlie in 1994; sister, Theresa and her husband Ross Vanderwater; brothers-in-law Leo Gunther, Art Kettner; and stepdaughter Louise. She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers: Erich (Ula), Richard (Elizabeth), Walter (Siegried), all of Germany; sisters, Klara Gunther of Winnipeg, MB and Olga Kettner of Calgary, AB. Elsie will also be greatly missed by her two stepchildren, Bonny of Reno, NV and Donald of the Northwest Territories; cousins, Donald and Sylvia Christension and their family, who she was very close with throughout her life; as well as, various nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada and Germany. Elsie owned and managed her own restaurant on Pembina Highway in Winnipeg for 25 years. At the age of 50 years she married the love of her life, Charlie. The two of them had 23 wonderful years together travelling throughout the U.S.A. and Hawaii. She was a kind and loving person who was always there for her entire family. Elsie was the big sister that every family would want. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and those she touched. Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service in her memory will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Road.
