Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMAN STRONG February 24, 1934 - June 30, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Strong, age 78 years, on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Concordia Hospital. Norman was predeceased by his loving wife Joan, parents Adam and Dorothy, sisters Faye, Myrtle, Gwen and Irene, and brothers Robert, Gordon and Maurice. He leaves to mourn his sisters Jean, Joan, Shirley, and brother Stanley, also sisters-in-law Tilly, Betty, Diana, Dorothy (Bill), Debbie (Larry), Sharon (Brian) and Bev (Paul), and many nieces, nephews and friends. Norman was born on February 24, 1934 in South Transcona, where he lived for most of his life. He was a very hard worker, starting work at an early age hauling coal from boxcars with his brother Maurice. Later on he went to work with BACM in the tunnels and then became a pipe layer and went to work for laser pipeline until his retirement at age 65. Norman loved to tinker with his lawn mowers, snowmobiles and cars, taking them apart and putting them back together, sometimes he needed his friend Ted's help. But his greatest pride was his yard - cutting and trimming often and you would never find a dandelion in his grass. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Kim and Jenny, Jerry, Marty and Ted for the care and concern they showed Norman especially these last few weeks. The family would also like to thank the staff in emergency and ICU at Concordia Hospital for the care and compassion you gave to Norman and to us, in his short stay there. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery Crematorium, 1800 Day Street with a viewing at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 1:30 p.m. with Bob Kosowan officiating. Cremation and a private family interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to CancerCare Manitoba. We will all miss you very much Norm... You were like an uncle to me. You always did so much for me and my family and I hope you know how much we appreciated it... We had a lot of great times, BBQs and get togethers. I remember you driving me to a friends with your hat sideways blasting old 50s music. All my friends that met you thought you were such a funny guy... I remember you trying to teach me to drive with your big green car and it makes me sad that I never got to tell you that I finally got my full license... The last time I visited you I was so happy cause you loved the mix CD I made you for your car. You were so happy I made it for you and it was funny explaining how your CD player in your car worked. I will remember that forever and I will never forget about you... I love you and will miss you Uncle Norm!!! Now you're finally with your wife you missed so much... Abbygoyle is sad that you're gone cause she wanted to say goodbye and she says she's gonna miss you... I have so many memories of you in my life. Some of the best times were spent with you & Auntie Joanie at Southside. It warms my heart that you are both together again. You are a great uncle and an even greater man. You will be forever missed by us all. Lots of love! From me, there are no good-byes. Norman WAS Southside. Everyone who knew Norman loved him for his jokes and the way he would stop his car to chat with everyone he knew. Always giving a helping hand. I used to watch as he would shovel Mrs. Buxton's sidewalk whenever it snowed in winter. He always brought laughter to Jerry Strong's house when he popped over for coffee - sitting at the kitchen counter and telling us his stories and jokes - cigarette hanging out of his mouth. If anyone needed a part for anything for the yard, whether it was a part for a rotor tiller, lawn mower, etc. we would go to Norman first to see if he had a spare part - OR he would take it and fix it!!! Never going to forget the day Norman pulled up, while I was cutting the grass in the side ditch. It was a very hot day, and he knew I was struggling with it. He held up a cold beer, and told me it was time to take a break. Many a morning he was next door at Gerry's place, proud day when he showed me his new car. Southside will never be the same.
