DOROTHY JEAN YOUNG It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my mother Dorothy Jean Young. Her passing was eased by close family members who were always by her side to support her after the passing of my father Jerry and my brother Shawn. My mother was easy to talk to; she always had an empathic ear and gave wise advice to those she cared for. She cherished her close relationships with her family members and her friends. I cannot find the appropriate words to express my profound sadness and love for my family. Until we meet again, my heart will long for what will seem an eternity, for my loving Mom, my protective Dad and my gentle souled, big brother Shawn. Thank you for giving me the best life, and making me the person I am today. Until we meet again. I will live my life with the integrity and values you have instilled in me. "A mark of respect to you" . Your very loving daughter and sister, Derin At my mother's request, no service will be held. Tributes and pictures are and can be posted on Derin Young's Facebook page. DOROTHY JEAN YOUNG It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my mother Dorothy Jean Young. After a lengthy illness, she passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012. Her passing was eased by close family members Marilyn and Rick, who were always by her side to support her after the passing of my father Jerry and my brother Shawn. The other close family members that stood by her were a wonderful gift and constant comfort to my mother. I am extremely grateful for such a supportive family. I love you all for your dedication. Both my parent's respected and supported the decisions made by their loved ones. My father Jerry supported others in the community by making over 100 blood donations to the Red Cross, and he volunteered with St. John's Ambulance. He was awarded a medal at Government House for his contributions to community. My mother was easy to talk to; she always had an empathic ear and gave wise advice to those she cared for. She cherished her close relationships with her family members and her friends. She loved you all. My parents loved each other for 56 years. They loved their children even more. They were very proud of their Shawn, and enjoyed watching him compete in running events with Special Olympics. They enjoyed their many visits to Kamloops to be in the company of their daughter Derin. Dot and Jerry leave the family a legacy of kindness, loyalty and respect. They opened their home to family and friends; we shared many fun filled summers at the cottage. Your gift to my family would be to live your lives with the same integrity and respect. They would ask you to carry the following sentiments in your heart: You can shed a tear that they are gone, Or you can smile because they have lived, You can close your eyes and pray that they'll come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all that they left, Your heart can be empty because you can't see them, Or you can be full of the love they shared with you. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live in yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday, You can remember them only that they are gone, Or you can cherish their memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, Be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what they'd want: Smile; Open your eyes, Love and Go on. I cannot find the appropriate words to express my profound sadness and love for my family. I will miss my Mom, Dad and my big brother Shawn, for what will seem like an eternity. Thank you being the best parents and my big brother. I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for giving me the best life, and making me the person I am. Until we meet again. I will live my life with the integrity and values you have instilled in me. A mark of respect to you . Your very loving daughter and sister, Derin At my mother's request, no service will be held. Donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society in the family name would be greatly appreciated. Tributes and pictures are and can be posted on my Facebook. I knew jerry away back in the 50's we played ball together.I was at thier wedding. We also worked together at the cn work equipment from when it opened until we retired. Jerry was a good guy to know. He was always positive never let too many things bother him even though he had his share of problems. He would always be ready to help you if you asked him. There is not too many things Jerry didn't confide in me with even with his personal life. I know he loved his family very much and they were the ones he always talked about the most when we were together. I lost track of Jerry after we retired and never knew or heard from him until my wife passed away then he phoned me.I didn't see his obit in the paper or hear from anyone that knew how he was doing. It was only luck that I saw Dot's I can only offer you my sincerest condolenes Derin and was very moved by your words about your family. It would be nice if you could contact me. I would like to hear about the last years I missed. Warmest Regards Your dad always called me Wes - Posted by: HAL WESTBERG (OLD FRIEND) on: Jul 12, 2012

So shocked to hear of the passing of your mom. We have such great memories of your family..dad, mom and Shawn. We always enjoyed Shawn's unexpected visits. We were very sorry and shocked to hear of his passing as well. I used to bump into your mom at Safeway and we always managed to block an aisle for a time as we caught up on the "gossip of the neighbourhood"! Take care, my dear, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. - Posted by: Carol & Bob Kirkhope (neighbour (Walden Cr)) on: Jul 12, 2012

WOW! Derin that was an eye opener for me. I had the strangest feeling to read this obituary, yes we are stranger's but I am struggling with a death and you made me see what burden I am carrying around as I mourn. You have the Blessing of both your parents to continue their legacy of Love & wisdom. Thank you for sharing such a compassionate reality of life...Bless you! - Posted by: Rita (just a reader) on: Jul 11, 2012
