RUTH YOUNG (nee ZILKE) October 26, 1921 - August 2, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Young on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Park Manor Personal Care Home at the age of 90. Ruth was born in Ridgeville, Manitoba, on October 26, 1921, and was the eighth of ten children. In 1945 she married her beloved husband Reinhold Schwab and gained many wonderful sisters and brothersin-law. After Reinhold's lengthy illness and short life, she met and married Philip Young in 1954, and spent 25 happy years living in Manitou. When Phil passed away in 1981, Ruth moved to Richmond Gardens in Winnipeg where she had many friends and happy memories. When her health declined, she moved to Park Manor. She loved cooking, baking, doing crafts and sewing costumes. Her love for music was apparent; and she belonged to the seniors Melody Band and the seniors Philharmonic Band for over ten years. Despite her numerous health issues, Ruth had a positive outlook on life. She never complained and always tried to cheer and help others. She will always be remembered for her giving heart, her great sense of humour, her kindness, and her continuous support to her friends and family. She was always committed to her faith over the years. Her favourite times were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For the past three years she was lovingly cared for by the staff at Park Manor. The family thanks them for making Ruth feel at home and giving her so much love and support. We thank them as well as Pastor Diamond, for their hours of devotion they gave her. Ruth will be greatly missed by her only daughter, Beverly (Kenneth) Legary, her grandson Donald (Colleen), her granddaughter Tannis (Raf), and her two great-grandchildren Bradley and Crystal. She is also survived by her extended family of Arlene Young, Lyle Young, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; they are all from the Manitou area. She leaves one sister Myrtle (Elmer) Suppes from Emerson, and her sister-in-law, Jean (Herb) Zilke, as well as her first husband's siblings, Millie, Donald, Ester (George), Dorothy, Alice (Howard), Gordon (Ida) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth's spirit and attitude on life touched everyone she knew in some way. She truly enjoyed her life, her friends and her family. We will all miss her but never forget her. As per Ruth's wishes a private service for the immediate family will be held. In lieu of flowers, if anyone wishes, donations may be made to Park Manor Personal Care Home or Osteoporosis Canada. God knew she was suffering He finally closed her weary eyes And whispered Rest in Peace We will always love and cherish her memories. Sometime, someday, we will meet again. • We first met Ruth in 1970 @ a family reunion in Emerson. We immediately became friends because of her friendliness and joy that she shared. We tried to see her each time we came to Canada, until she left Richmond Gardens and we lost track of her. - Posted by: Virgil Janzen (My Grandmother and Ruth's Mother were sisters.) on: Aug 18, 2012

  • Our sympathy to you Bev and family I will always great memory of your mom, the fun time we had, and when i first was cleaning windows for her and then i cleaned windows for her friends she would come and did the inspection. She taught many things and she would not let me go without have something to eat with her. God blessed her heart and life and the whole will be empty. We teased her that when she passes away we would place a fork and knife in her hands because she always serving someone with food, she always knew wht someone else needed. Many memories will linger. - Posted by: Elvera Neudorf (a friend ) on: Aug 09, 2012
