ROLAND OWEN WILLIAMS, April 8, 1938 - August 10, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roland Williams on Friday, August 10, 2012, at the St. Boniface Hospital. Roland was predeceased by parents Carl and Bessie Williams, and siblings Charlie, Florence, Evelyn, Genevieve and Darcina. He will be missed by brothers Carl, Joe (Gladys), Cecil, Richard (Bev) and James, sisters Estella, Anna, Ardella, and a large extended family. Roland spent most of his life in the hotel and restaurant industry as a Chef and later operated a catering company before poor health forced an early retirement. His vacations at his sister's home in Las Vegas were his greatest joy and he was able to visit again this spring before taking ill. Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of the Asper Institute CSIU at St. Boniface General Hospital where Roland spent his last weeks. A celebration of Roland's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14 at the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., Transcona. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I had the delightful pleasure of being Roland's foot care nurse for over 10 years. He always teased me incessantly about my poor cooking ability and offered many tips which he never forgot to mention the next time I saw him. I will miss him greatly. - Posted by: joy (footcare nurse) on: Sep 12, 2012

  • To Barb and family we are so sorry to hear about Roland. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. - Posted by: Carol & Marlene Agland (friends) on: Aug 21, 2012

  • As a nurse on CSIU I took care of Mr. Williams many times and no matter how poorly he felt or what he was going through, he always had a positive attitude and uplifting character. He was a pleasure to care for and I know all of the staff of CSIU was heartbroken to learn of his passing. We wish the Williams family well in this difficult time and know that our hearts and prayers go out to you all. - Posted by: A Nurse on CSIU (nurse on CSIU, friend) on: Aug 14, 2012

  • My deepest condolences to all of the Williams Family. Mr. & Mrs Williams home was an open house when I was a teenager. They always had a houseful of kids and welcomed everyone. Mr. Williams offered me my first job working for Micheals Catering in Transcona. He had the most loud infectious laugh you could hear that laugh from a mile away. He was very comical and had quick wit. Many times he had me laughing until I cried. He always had some sort of advice or story to tell. Many fun times were had while working for Mr. Williams. He will be greatly missed by many but always remembered. Rest in Peace Mr. Williams. Denise Cheang - Posted by: Denise Cheang (family friend) on: Aug 13, 2012

  • We wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the William's family. We have known them for 35 years. Tracy was like the 4th daughter in our family and best friend of Kyla. Rolland catered my mom and dad's 40th & 50 Wedding Anniversary. He was one special man and surely will be missed by many. One of his traits I remember is his great sense of humor. Truly you will have many memories to look back upon as you celebrate Rollie's life. (Diane Prokop) - Posted by: Diane & Randy Prokop and Family (Old Family Friends) on: Aug 13, 2012
