Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM BROWN MITCHELL April 27, 1926 - August 26, 2012 Peacefully, with his family by his side, our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, William Brown Mitchell, passed away on August 26, 2012 at Concordia Hospital. Bill will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Isabel and his children, Jeanne and Bill (Wendy); his grandchildren Karen (Jeff), Brian, Heather (Mike) and Susan (Klint), and his great-grandchildren Cody, Mitchell, Karter, Adeline and Elodie. Bill was predeceased by his parents James and Martha, his brother Jim, his son-in-law Reg Neufeld, and infant son James Percy. Bill was a loving and caring person. He took great pride in his family and their accomplishments. Bill was a loyal and dedicated employee of Canadian National Railway for 44 years, retiring in 1986. Bill stayed in contact with his co-workers during his retirement years attending luncheons and having coffee every Thursday with his pal Norm. This was very important to him. Bill and Isabel built a family cottage at Florence Lake in 1955. Bill took great pride in his accomplishment of building the cottage in the bush . Many summers were spent making memories at Florence Lake with family and friends. His efforts have been enjoyed by five generations. Following his retirement, Bill and Isabel spent their winters in Mesa, AZ. He truly loved all the social gatherings and activities. He was referred to as the paper boy in the park. It gave him great pleasure in doing a little something for the widows by picking up their newspaper from the street and placing it by their doors. Bill was a lifelong member of Transcona Memorial United Church. Bill was also a member of the Kilcona Masonic Lodge and in 2008, he was presented his 50 year recognition. It meant so much to have his family in attendance for this occasion. Bill was also a Past Noble Grand of Transcona Lodge #81 of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and a long-time member of the Transcona Legion. After living in Transcona his entire life, Bill and Isabel moved to Oakbank, MB in 1999. Bill served on the Board of Directors for Oaks North Condominium. In 2011, Bill and Isabel returned to Transcona, moving to Devonshire House. Bill loved baseball, particularly the Toronto Blue Jays. He knew all the player's names and followed the team's performance daily. The Blue Jays have lost a loyal fan. The family would like to thank the staff of Devonshire House for their caring assistance. We would also like to thank the Concordia Hospital Emergency and 3W staff and Dr. Caners for the care and comfort provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association or the Diabetes Association. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Dad, we are comforted by the fact that you are now at rest. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery Crematorium 1800 Day Street 224-1525
