JOAN M. VICKERS (SUFFRON)
Date of Passing: Aug 26, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN M. VICKERS (SUFFRON) Peacefully, after a short illness, our Mom passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012 with her family by her side. Joan will be missed by her children Jack and Deb, Patti, Tom and Karen, her grandchildren Emily and Tim, Garry, Jackson and Sherry, Matt and Michelle, Mark, her great-grandchildren, Laura and Jonah and also her sister Pat (Cal), in-laws Steve, Swann, Harold and Blanche, Betty, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, brothers Gord, Ken, and Art, sister Rita, in-laws George, Ted and May. Mom was born in Winnipeg in 1930 and married her childhood sweetheart, Bill in 1952. They moved to Transcona where she resided until her passing. Mom enjoyed being a wife and mom...cooking, baking, chauffeuring the kids around in her turquoise Rambler station wagon were pleasures for her, not chores. Once her grandchildren came along, she just had larger family dinners, more baking and chauffeuring to do! By the time the great-grandchildren came along, she had slowed down but enjoyed it when she got together with them. Everyone was always welcome in our Mom's house, family, friends, neighbours or strays...there was always room (and food) for one more. In the early days, her favourite vacation was camping, Blue Lake in particular. Then there was Grand Beach, the Black Hills trip, Fargo to shop at West Acres and, later on, she and Dad travelled all over the USA on various trips, the best being Las Vegas - she loved those slot machines! After losing Dad, her life changed and she lost a little of her spark. Some health issues arose which brought her down but didn't stop her. She kept busy playing bingo, chatting with her coffee buddies on Thursdays, going out for dinner and, of course, going to the casino. At the time of her passing, she was looking forward to seeing two of her grandsons get married in the near future. A Celebration of Life gathering over food and refreshments will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery Crematorium, 1800 Day Street, Winnipeg. Our family would like to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts. Special thanks to Concordia Hospital ICU for their care and concern. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery Crematorium 1800 Day Street 224-1525
