Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUDREY GERELUS (nee CHARNEY) May 4, 1926 - July 31, 2012 In the same gentle and dignified way she lived life, Audrey Gerelus, age 86, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on July 31, 2012, at the St. Boniface Hospital. Left to forever cherish her memory is her daughter Rita (Robert), son-in-law Jim, grandchildren David, Dean, Kevin and Kelly. She is also survived by her sister Adeline, brother Felix (Emily), brother-in-law Edward, sisters-in-law Jean and Nellie and numerous nieces and nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her beloved husband Maurice, daughter Brenda, parents Kost and Agnes, brothers Ted, Mike, Edward, and sisters Clara, Ann, Stella, Nell, Agnes and Vera. Audrey, one of 12 children, was born in Garson, Manitoba, where she enjoyed an exciting and adventurous young adulthood. It was love at first sight when she met her true love, Maurice, at a community dance, and they were married in 1950. Although she moved to Winnipeg, her fondness and love for her childhood home and family remained strong. Audrey enjoyed her work at Jacob Crowley where, except for a hiatus to raise her daughters, she spent her career. Audrey was a truly unique and special person. With an inner strength, peace and wisdom she taught the importance of loving unconditionally, cherishing family and kindness. Although a woman of few words, she had a warm smile, a twinkle in her eye and a great sense of humor. Besides many wonderful memories, Audrey leaves a legacy of love and respect. Audrey enjoyed a very special relationship with her grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud. She took great pleasure in watching them grow up and spending time with them. In particular, she treasured the times they would simply rest their heads on her shoulder, the many sleepovers, the drives to Lockport and, most recently, their companionship and love while she was in the hospital. A very special thank you to family physician, Dr. Eva Smil (Kathy), for her kindness, understanding and dedication over the last 28 years. Thank you to the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital (5th floor) and of the WRHA Home Care Program for their care and support. Cremation and interment have taken place. A celebration of Audrey's life will take place on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Audrey's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Suite 200, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6 or a charity of choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550

I was so very sad to hear of Auntie Audrey's passing. The news just came to me here in Vancouver in November. I have so many memories of her - she was my first baby sitter. And my Mother (Nell) and Father and I actually went to Clear Lake, Manitoba with Auntie Audrey and Uncle Maurice on their honeymoon. I was the ring bearer at their wedding. She was a wonderful, kind and gentle lady and will be missed. With love from Derek and Joanne - Posted by: Derek Francis (nephew) on: Nov 22, 2012
