ANNIE NIMCHUK It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Annie (Ann) Nimchuk on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Ann was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on November 4, 1930. The family moved to a farm near Birch River, Manitoba where she attended school, and in 1943 moved to Winnipeg where she worked for Perth's. It was in Winnipeg that she met her future husband Walter (Wally) Nimchuk, and they were married on September 5, 1953. Shortly before starting their family they moved into the Dorothy Block on Hargrave as the caretakers and for several years looked after an extended family of residents until they moved to their home in St. Boniface. Ann and Wally raised four boys Warren, Darren, Arlen and Shelden, and Annie took great pride in their backyard gardens and fruit trees. She was especially fond of her grandchildren Victoria and Cassandra, Alina and Nicholas, and Emma and Mona, and was always the first one to send out birthday greetings. Ann is survived by her husband Wally, their four boys, her sisters Mary, Ada, Alice, Pauline and her brother Nick. In keeping with Ann's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Ann may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Sorry to hear about your loss. We worked with Anne at the Niakwa for many years. She was a fun loving and hard working person. Jim also worked with Walter at Air Canada. Out thoughts and prayers are with you always. Jim and Lou - Posted by: Jim and Lou Daeninck (Friend and co workers) on: Sep 09, 2012

  • Aunt Ann and Uncle Wally would come visit us in Los Angeles from Winnipeg with their four sons and this was a very fun memory of my childhood. We would all go to cool places like Disneyland and all of us kids would run from ride to ride and the adults would have a lot of fun together. Uncle Wally was funny and a lot of fun to be around and Aunt Ann would always laugh at the funny things he said. She was a great cook and always made us feel welcome when we visited their home. You will be missed so much Aunt Ann. Lots of love from Niece Linda, and my husband Robert and daughter Andrea. - Posted by: Linda Watson (Niece) on: Sep 06, 2012

  • The first time I met Anne was in Sept 1956, upon leaving St. Boniface Hospital after completing my RN, we were left with no where to go. As I had no money at all, I thought Emily and Mickey could help me out. I arrived at Hargrave with a small suitcase and a portable Singer machine. It was Ann who let me amd my friend into her apartment while waiting several hours for Emily to arrive. It was Ann who gave us a cup of tea, total strangers who over the years loved her dearly. She had fire and passion with a big heart. She was a hard worker. She will be sadly missed. Lovingly Anne - Posted by: Anne (Rodik) Kates (Friend) on: Sep 05, 2012

  • When I was a boy, I always looked forward to each summer when our family would travel to Canada and I could see my relatives and play with my cousins. As I grew older, I still looked forward to seeing my relatives, but I very much enjoyed spending time on Wally and Anne’s porch. We tipped a couple there and had many a good talk that would go into the late evening. I’ll miss those times and Anne dearly. - Posted by: Jim Nimchuk (Nephew) on: Sep 05, 2012

  • I met Ann and Wally many years ago when Ann and my Dad traced their family connection. They got together for many social events. Even after my parents death I kept in contact with Ann and Wally, phone calls and Christmas cards. My deepest sympathies to Wally and family. Rest in peace Ann. - Posted by: Nancy Pawlyk (Ann and my Dad George were cousins) on: Sep 05, 2012
