ANTONIO (TONY) FRANCESCO CIANFLONE With his devoted family by his side, our loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, September 2, 2012, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer, at age 78 years. Dad's life was celebrated daily with his loving wife of 52 years Giovanna, as the two were inseparable. She, along with their children Frank, Stella with husband Mick, Jerry with wife Theresa, and their treasured grandchildren, Katrina with husband Jesse, Tony, Giovanna, Antonio, Nina, Raffaele and Gennaro will miss Nanuzzu immensely. Also mourning Dad's loss are his siblings, Angelina with husband Gaetano, Franco with wife Serafina, Flavio with wife Louise, and Mario, along with sisters-in-law Maria and Concetta, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents Francesco and Maria Stella, father and mother-in-law Gennaro and Maria, brother-in-law Vincenzo, and his brother Pietro. Dad's life began in 1934, in a tiny village called Amato in Southern Italy, where, as a young boy and the eldest of six siblings, he cultured the skills of fortitude and family devotion. This was learnt by his irrefutable diligence to assist his parents in raising the family. Dad continued this noble life in Winnipeg, in which he immigrated to in 1954, with the unwavering desire to build a better future for his family. Knowing Mom from the same small Italian village, it wasn't until both established life in Winnipeg when Dad married his honey in 1960. With strong ethical philosophies, together they built an incredible life with their multitude of friends and family. Most recently his community network increased where he became affectionately recognized as Papa Cianflone . Dad lived the latter of his adult life continuously surrounded by his precious grandchildren who fondly addressed him as Nanuzzu. His highly respected wisdom and traditions were instilled in those he loved and his legacy will be valued in our hearts. His mantra was to work hard with strong ethics, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. We love you Nanuzzu. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to nurse Louise and family friends Dr. and Mrs. Dominique for their compassion and guided assistance with Dad's care. Thank you to countless family and friends for your prayers and support, and special hugs to Jim Mathison. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Fr. Gerry McDougall S.J. on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Parish , 255 Stafford St. (Stafford at Corydon). Pallbearers include his cherished grandchildren and brothers Franco and Flavio. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Parish, (204) 474-2351.
