WILFRED CHURKO July 30, 1930 - September 14, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that the Churko family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Wilf passed away peacefully at Riverview with his family by his side. Left to mourn him is Betty, his wife of 59 years, three children, son Marty, daughters, Cindi Steg (Barry) Wendy Hein (Randy) and three precious grandsons, Wyatt, Brandson and Liam. Wilf was predeceased by his parents Susan and Anthony and his two brothers Joe and Frank. Wilf was born in Winnipeg and lived there all his life. Wilf worked for many years at Canada Printing Ink, then he was a custodian for Seven Oaks School Board. Because he loved being outdoors Dad's favorite job in his later years was working for the Provincial Park at Grand Beach. Wilf and Betty spent many years at their cottage in Grand Marais. Their theme parties were very well known. The last 15 years they spent the winters in Mexico enjoying the culture amid the numerous friends they met there. Wilf was a fabulous cook who loved sharing his favorite recipes with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his borscht and holubtsi (cabbage rolls.) Wilf loved all outdoor activities such as fishing and hunting. Best of all he loved sitting outdoors drinking beer whether at the cottage, at home in his garage or with his friends at the beer parlour. Wilf had a special affinity with his dog Dici he even taught him to walk around with a flashlight in his mouth lighting his path. As we mourn his passing we also take comfort in the happy memories and the legacy Wilf left with his family. The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative ward at Riverview for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba. A celebration of life will take place at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery Crematorium, 1800 Day Street at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 with MarieAnne Propp officiating.
