LOUIE ALEX SPEISS Born August 16, 1948, passed away September 6, peacefully with his two sons and brother Ken by his side at Winnipeg's Health Science Centre. His passing, although not sudden, has taken his family by surprise. It was hoped that Louie would've had a second chance at life following a stem cell transplant procedure undertaken in November, 2011. Unfortunately complications from the transplant arose that in the end took the ultimate toll on Louie's health. Louie had much more life to live and much more to see and accomplish. He was a driven, goal oriented man and passionate about many things including wood working and carpentry, home renovating, gardening, travelling, wine making and spending time with his granddaughters...something he would've liked to do more of but that his health prevented him from doing so. Most of all, Louie was passionate about providing for his family - his two sons and the love of his life, Anita, wife of 41 years. Sadly, Louie's health prevented him from caring for his wife over the past six months as she battled her own horrible, life threatening illness. Because of this they were only able to see each other a hand full of times since early May. Perhaps Louie's passing now provides him a way to be with and comfort his wife as she continues her fight. This notion of ultimate sacrifice brings peace to Louie's family, with him finally at peace as well. Louie was predeceased by his father Alec. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Anita, sons Philip (Susie) and Brad, two cherished granddaughters Sierra and Kinley, mother Nellie, his brothers Leo, Terry, Bob, Ken, Allan and their families. Special thanks goes to the staff at GD6 (Health Science Centre) for their exceptional care and attention. Louie will be laid to rest in the Family niche at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. You will always be loved and never forgotten, as a piece of you will live on in your sons and grandchildren. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (15 entries)

  • So sad to hear this news recently. Worked with Anita and met Louie several times when they welcomed me into their home in St. Vital. Their beautiful home I might add. Although that was many years ago, Anita and Louie were just the type of people you don't forget. Anita was always very supportive of me and always had kind words as I battled my own problems, and to this day I will not forget that kindness. I went to visit Anita at Riverview, and her strength and courage is beyond words, it will always inspire me. Thoughts and prayers to Anita and her family. - Posted by: Diane Sloboda (friend and co-worker of wife Anita, Richardson Greenshields) on: Sep 26, 2012

  • Although I did not know your husband Anita, I was sorry to hear about your loss at this difficult time in your life. - Posted by: Jacky Morry (Friend and work associate of his wife Anita at Richardson Greenshields in the 80's. ) on: Sep 19, 2012

  • Goodbye Lou. It was a privilege to have worked alongside of you for so many years. "They whom we love and lost are no longer where they were before. They are now wherever we are." - Posted by: Lorne () on: Sep 19, 2012

  • I worked with Louie at Videon for many years. I liked him from the first moment I met him. His sense of humour was amazing and we often had hilarious verbal jousting matches with each other, much to the amusement of our fellow workers. It was all done in the spirit of fun and friendship. Louie was a very private person and it's not surprising that he kept his illness mostly to himself. For his family I pray for peace and comfort at this sad time. - Posted by: Paul Horch (former Videon co-worker) on: Sep 18, 2012

  • Deepest sympathy to the family. Wishing you strength during this difficult time. - Posted by: Kyle and Sholla Unrau and Family (Friends of Family) on: Sep 18, 2012

  • My wife Leslie and I shared many a good times with Louie and Anita back in the glory days when we were working at Videon. Louie was the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back, an incredibly talented man who knew lots about all trades and would always be happy to share his advice. He had a great sense of humour and one could often hear that unmistakable laugh. He was a very devoted family man. Anita, you are in our thoughts and prayers as you deal with this and your own health issues. Brad and Philip take comfort that you had access to a loving father through your formative years and that he has taught you many skills and mannerisms that will help you greatly in your lives. Sad to say that we had drifted apart after Videon was purchased by Shaw (but we did have the occasional lunch with the old gang at Garbonzo's) and I was not aware of the severity of Louie's illness until this weekend. Rest in piece Louie and may the family draw strength from the testimonials given for this incredible man. - Posted by: Derek Fingler (friend/ex-co-worker at Videon) on: Sep 17, 2012

  • It has been years since I saw Louis, but it feels like yesterday when I think about working with him. He was a great person to work with, he was funny and caring and made me feel so welcome in the Design Dept. He spoke often of his family and loved them so dearly. My sincere condolences go out to his family and especially to Anita, Philip and Brad. My prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Monica Morin (Ex- coworker/friend) on: Sep 17, 2012
