Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHERESE MARIE GOTTFRED (nee DESPRES) At the age of 87, with her family by her side, Therese Gottfred passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital on September 23, 2012. Therese leaves behind her three loving children: Diane and her children Anlina, Ankar and Anton; Neil and his children Adam and Sara; and Michael (Angela) and their children Gus and Jack. She also leaves behind her brother Roland. She was predeceased by her husband Lorne in 1996. She was also predeceased by her parents Abraham and Eugenie, sisters Rita, Amelia, Lillian, Janine, and Lucy. Therese was born on June 12, 1925 on the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Both her parents died very young and she was left an orphan by age 11. After spending time at an orphanage in Quebec City she moved to Halifax to help in the war effort. It was there that she met Lorne, a naval officer, who would become her husband and the love of her life. They eventually settled in River Heights where they would raise their family. Therese was a very social person who had many close friends. Her home was always a gathering place as she loved to host special times for both family and friends. Her favourite pastime was golf and she was a long time member of Southwood Golf and Country Club. While she was never able to master the game, she did make many of her best friends that would last her entire life. After Lorne retired in 1978, they were able to spend their winters in Titusville, Florida. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverwood Square who helped her in her final year. As well we would like to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital for their care and compassion in her final days. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive. Rev. Father Kevin Bettens Celebrant. Mike, Angie & children We were so sorry to see that your mother has passed away. We knew her for many years. We enjoyed visits with your Mom & Dad in Titusville for several years in the winter, and always looked forward to seeing her at golf events in Southwood. Dear Diane, Neil, & Mike:So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I remember many nights of laughter in her home, of course with your father too. Margaret & I always looked forward to our visits with your mother since Lorne & Gordon had passed. It was just like old times, good times with good friends. My deepest symphathy to your family. Therese was a wonderful friend for many years. We had so many great times in Florida as neighbours and wonderful memories at Southwood playing golf. Dear Diane, Neil and Mike, We send our deepest sympathy to you and your families on the passing of your dear Mother. Therese was a very good friend of ours and we will miss her very much. However we look back on the many joyful days and events we shared with her and also with your late father, Lorne. We are so glad we have had the privilege of being her friend.
