JAROMIR (JERRY) KLIMES June 6, 1951 - September 20, 2012 After a long, hard battle with his health, Jerry Klimes passed away with his family by his side September 20, 2012. Jerry will be missed and remembered by his wife Mila, daughter Gabriela (Jason Pusiewich) and son Robert (Karyn Kibsey). His little granddaughters, Sadie and Danica, will also miss their Dedek as will many extended family members in the Czech Republic and friends around the world. Jerry was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia to Miroslav and Ludmila (Prechova). He spent his boyhood summers in Dacice, Moravia; times on which he looked back fondly his entire life. He was trained as a mechanic, though spent most of his working years as a long-distance truck driver. He met his wife of 38 years when he picked her up hitchhiking on New Year's Day 1973. They were married just over a year later, and their children soon followed. When their children were still very young, Jerry and Mila made the hard decision to leave family and friends in their homeland. They sought amnesty in France, and eventually immigrated to Canada to settle in Winnipeg, where Jerry was able to watch his children grow and establish their own lives, a source of immense pride for him. A hospitable and good humoured man, Jerry was always ready with a drink or pivo for friends who visited. He also loved cooking, and was an expert soup maker. He enjoyed researching and learning about new recipes, and the Internet opened a whole new world of dishes for him to make. Jerry was a passionate sports fan, in particular of the 1992/1993 Toronto Blue Jays and the Green Bay Packers. He also maintained a lifelong interest in European soccer, especially SK Slavia Praha. Jerry was also an avid traveler. He enjoyed seeing much of North America during his years driving truck and in personal travels throughout the continent, the Caribbean and Europe. Despite his ailing health in recent years, Jerry always maintained optimism about his next trip. A special thank you to Doctors Eva Smil and Brendan MacDougall for their care and efforts over many years, and to staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba (1-888-473-4636). An interment will take place at a later date in the Czech Republic and a remembrance of Jerry's life will be planned in the coming weeks. Utichlo srdce znavené, nebylo z ocele, nebylo z kamene.
