DONNA LEE KOSMUK (SMITH) March 11, 1951 October 5, 2012 Despite a second courageous battle with a second primary cancer, Donna passed away surrounded by her loving family. Missing her dearly will be her children Shawn Kosmuk (Jasmine), Stacey Kosmuk (Darryl), grandchildren Jaycen, Jade, Mother Noreen Smith, and siblings Lynne Yetman (Norm), Kathy Buckle (John), Kevin Smith (Yvette), Wendy Martin and nieces and nephews Megan, Kristen, Jackson, Kristina, Stephanie, Lauren and Kelsey. Donna is predeceased by her father Arthur Smith. Donna was a wise, caring soul that challenged life at every turn. No obstacle was too great for this beautiful, multitalented woman, mother, and mentor. From an early age she displayed an artistic flair. This blossomed into a career in commercial art and marketing. She founded her own company, consulting firm, and led many organizations to success in her career. Donna was a loving, caring person that volunteered for many organizations. She truly made a difference that helped many people throughout her life with us. From painting her favourite nature scenes for her loved ones, to making a gourmet breakfast at her oceanfront B B in Gibson, BC, Donna always found a way to make people feel special, and loved. Donna's motto for life can be summarized as Live every day with determination and never let anyone tell you your dreams are unachievable . This was her strongest belief when loving her greatest passion, her children. She also applied it to all her interests including business, research, writing, cooking, painting, gardening, traveling and yes, even a good scrabble game. Donna is now at peace overseeing our own continuing personal journeys and will always be connected with our souls. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hilderman, her family doctor for supporting her through her journey, and a thank you to the fantastic, compassionate staff at the St. Boniface palliative care unit for keeping Donna comfortable at her most difficult times. At Donna's request there will not be a formal service but a private celebration of life will take place on October 27, 2012. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • I just found out about Donna’s death last night. I was terribly shocked because she and I communicated just a couple of months ago when she sent me condolences about a tragedy in my own life. I had no idea the cancer had returned. I remember how awestruck I was by her first battle – her determination, her ability to take complete charge of her own treatment and her conviction that she was going to beat it. She did and got another 20 years of life. I knew Donna professionally but always considered her a friend as well. We worked together in Winnipeg years ago but also more recently in BC. In fact we sought her expert advice only a few months ago – she helped us with our marketing strategy for a project here in BC. In Wpg she would decorate our display units and tagging along when she chose furniture and accessories was an exhilarating and humbling experience. She was so gifted. And she was tough too – she had a very low tolerance level for incompetents and I was always careful never to say anything stupid when I was with her (that was my goal anyway!) I am so sorry. She was such a talented person. A great loss. - Posted by: Kate Mancer (Colleague and friend) on: Nov 10, 2012

  • I had the privelege to volunteer with Donna on the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce for 4 years when she lived and operated her B&B out here. As I am a fellow Winnipeger, and moved out west in 2004, we found we always had a lot to talk about. After we finished our time with the Chamber, 4 of us decided we wanted to still keep getting together, so we formed a book club. This November will be 4 years since its inception. I will never forget what a SPEED reader Donna was. AND some of our discussions regarding the books. Sometimes it would get a little warm in the room. . . I want to express my deepest sympathies to her family. She was a inspiration and motivator for me during her time out here in BC. She will be missed. - Posted by: Mary-Ann Thiessen (Friend) on: Oct 27, 2012

  • The last gift Aunty Donna gave me was a purple hand made scarf and a magenta hand made pin. She said she knew those were my favorite colours these days. She was right. That was the last time I saw her, because I moved to Japan 2 days later. She was so thoughtful and sent me special gifts and cards even when she was living in B.C. and I was in living in Mexico. I miss her. xoxoxox love Kris - Posted by: Kristen Yetman (Niece) on: Oct 15, 2012
