Born: Jul 01, 1926
Date of Passing: Oct 23, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROGER RAPHAEL VANDE VYVERE July 1, 1926 - October 23, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He completed his journey on earth and joined his wife in the loving arms of our Lord. Roger was born and raised in St. Boniface where he attended Provencher School. He joined the Canadian National Railway, at the age of 16, to help his family after the sudden death of his father. He remained with the CNR until his retirement 41 years later. He worked in the car shop at Symington Yards working his way up to supervisor, and he so loved his time on the wrecking crew! Roger was a committed parishioner at Christ the King Church where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent many a winter's day at the Heather and then the Fort Garry Curling Club as a member of the Night Hawks curling league. He loved golf, and during his retirement years he spent his time re-gripping, fixing, and building golf clubs, when not on the course with friends. Roger found the most enjoyment in one thing above all, and that was spending time with his family. He cherished his time at the family cottage on Bird Lake with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He often mused over the rock upon which he wrote, "Dad loves Mom". He was predeceased by his loving wife, Elaine (nee Ofremchuk) in 2001, and his brothers, Daniel and Camille. He leaves to mourn his loss his son, Wayne (Dawn), daughters, Valerie (Glen) Bergeron, Gail Vande Vyvere and Kimberley (Gerry) Hawkes, grandchildren, Jaimie (Warren) Law, Madisson and Ryley Vande Vyvere, Erin and Bryan Bergeron, Melissa, and Jeff MacCoy, Amelia, Emily, Matthew and Owen Hawkes, and great-grandchildren, Ty MacCoy, Kayd MacCoy-Antonio and Nolan Law. He is also survived by his sister, Simone Devodder, his brother, Jules (Carol) and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass celebrating Roger's life will be held in St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Road on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Manitoba Lung Association. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. My dad was an inspiration to me and to my sisters and brother. I was fortunate enough to learn carpentry from him and to give it my best effort. We travelled across Canada to BC to visit my uncle and down into the states. He didn't like planes so we drove or he would take the train. I hold him close to my heart. - Posted by: Gail (Daughter) on: Dec 28, 2012

Our sincere condolences to Roger's children and family. We look back to 1960 when we all began building our cottages at Bird Lake and the many adventures we shared through the years. Some a little scary (the bears) but mostly the fun times. I recall Gail and I charging back and forth between our cottages playing Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and once seening a bear on our way we hurried back to tell Gail's dad. I still remember his reply... "Oh you're full of beans." And I recall that Val was probably the best water skier on the lake. We'll miss your dad and his big voice and big heart. Always there to lend a hand and give good, sound advice when something needed doing. From the Marek and Razik families, our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Eileen Marek-Moller (Cottage neighbour) on: Oct 28, 2012
