WILLIAM HENRY SCOTT
Born: Feb 04, 1929
Date of Passing: Nov 15, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM HENRY SCOTT February 4, 1929 - November 15, 2012 William Henry Scott (known as Bill or Scotty to his friends) and twin brother Bob (Scott) came into the world on February 4, 1929. Bill, Bob and younger brother John (Scott) kept their mother and father Evelyn and Jack (Scott) busy trying to figure out what they boys were up to in the family home on Morley Avenue in Winnipeg. As one of the Morley Avenue Boys , Bill was definitely involved in hijinks with great times had by all! Working as a gardener in Assiniboine Park was the start of a long career with the City of Winnipeg. Bill loved his job and the people that he worked with, whether he was designing a park or overseeing the crews who made his designs reality. Work kept him busy, but having twin daughters Bobbie (Dukelow) and Jackie (Scott) with wife Pat (Scott) kept him even busier! Now the action moved to Clare Avenue, with memorable times had by the Scotts the Campbells and the Tates (remember the mortgage burning party?). Later in life, after Pat's passing, Bill had the wonderful good fortune to meet Rose (Scott). They eloped, and the "rest is history ...." Instantly the family grew to include her son Gerry (Hunker) and his partner Nicole (Whyte). In addition to changes in the family, it was time for travel! Bill and Rose had many years of great times in Portugal, Osoyoos B.C., and at the cottage in Grand Marais. Bill and Rose's home base continued to be Winnipeg, as Papa and Oma's presence was required at family gatherings by grandchildren Robert (Dukelow), Myles, Shea and Roan (Hunker). Throughout his life, the Fort Rouge Curling Club was a very special place to Bill; a place to curl and socialize with family and friends. Curling, designing curling draws and playing bridge with the gang at the club on Tuesdays were things that he truly enjoyed. In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Flowers are gratefully declined, if friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Bill to a charity of one's choice. What a journey! What a life! Scotty, we love you and will miss you greatly. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

I spent a significant amount of time with "Uncle Bill" at Aunt Evelyn's cottage in Grand Marais. I will always remember him being up at the crack of dawn. I remember asking him to wake me when he gets up (this only happened once by the way) lol Taking me swimming at the rocky beach, blueberry picking and many a mini golf trip. Some of my best childhood memories took place at Aunt Evelyn cottage. Uncle Bill will be fondly remembered. - Posted by: Caroline Cramer * Len Mulvaney's Grandaughter (Family) on: Jan 06, 2013

To everyone who shared a story or thought with us, I'd like to tell you how wonderful it was to read them. I shared your thoughts and special memories at the funeral service on Wednesday (November 21, 2012). People in attendance got a kick out of the things that you shared, and through all of us, we are keeping my father's memory alive. For that, I am truly grateful. - Posted by: Bobbie Dukelow (daughter) on: Nov 24, 2012

Bill was my first foreman in 1956 when I was going to school and cutting grass. For the next 4 years he allowed me to work up to the first day of school and hire me back the day after school ended. We eventually became friends and I ended up working 33 yrs. with Parks and Receation after finishing school. He was one of the most confident men I ever met and just loved his work. Won't forget the Grafton Bonspiels. He was a great guy and will be missed. Would have loved to be at the funeral but am away for the winter. My condolences to the Scott family. - Posted by: John Mirus (Friend and fellow worker.) on: Nov 21, 2012

Bobbie, Jackie, Rose My thoughts and love are with you. Bill was a character! The term "One of a Kind" comes to mind. Thank goodness as I am not sure the world could have handled more than one Scotty. I remember how Bill stepped in for my Dad to keep an eye out for me while I lived in Winnipeg. Including me in Sunday Family dinners, I can still taste the cottage roll and cabbage, so yummy! Graciously hosting a celebration my university graduation. Although I only got to see Bill a few times over the years since I left Winnipeg, I have always thought of him fondly and with love. He will be missed by many. Bobbie, Jackie, Rose and family. Bill was someone I will never forget. From working with him at the World's in 1991 to going to the select in Brandon, to golfing to having drinks at the Rouge Bill was someone who always had an opinion about everything and he was never afraid to tell us. My friendship with him was very important to me and I will miss him. Please accept my sincere condolences. I am away at a trade show in Regina so will not be able to be at the service but I will be thinking of you guys. Ken McLean - Posted by: Ken McLean (friend) on: Nov 19, 2012
