AUDREY AILEEN CARLSON (HAGYARD)
Date of Passing: Dec 02, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAUDREY AILEEN CARLSON (nee HAGYARD) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Audrey Carlson on December 2, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 80 years. Audrey is predeceased by her parents Ella Ellis and Jack Hagyard, step father Willis Ellis and brother, Mervin Hagyard. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband Robert Carlson; sister Lorraine Johnson, sister-in-law Joy Hagyard; children, Randy (Lynn), Clifford (Sari), Debbie Essex, Ken Essex, Michael (Donna); grandchildren, Chris (Kathy), Laurel (Danny), Deanne (Geoff), Amber (Jess), Lindsey (Nick), Lee, Terri, Jackie (Sandro), Bobby (Adrienne), Lorraine and 21 great-grandchildren, with another to be born this coming summer. Delivered by her grandmother, Audrey (Grandma) was born on her family farm in Purves, Manitoba on August 25, 1932. In 1941 at the age of nine, she went to La Riviere to live with Winnie Martens to be a mother's helper as it was war time and Mr. Marten was called to war. Even as a child, Grandma was always taking care of people. Grandma met Grandpa in 1950 and they were married in 1951. Their 60 years together were lived to the very fullest. They retired to their home at Lee River, were members of Eastern Star, travelled Australia and were long time season ticket holders with the Bombers. Grandma and Grandpa are so proud of each other and their accomplishments. Despite being diagnosed with polio at the age of 19 and confined to a wheelchair, Grandma never let anything get in her way. The only thing she could not do was walk. After raising her family, she returned to school, and became a medical transcriptionist. She was and will always be one of the strongest, most courageous people we know. Her kind heart, loving nature and zest for life, no matter the obstacles, were admired by all who knew her. Even days leading up to her passing, Grandma assured us she was satisfied with her life, she was so proud of her "crazy" family and everything we all had accomplished. She was ready to go and her main concern was all of us and making sure Grandpa doesn't forget any birthdays. She comforted us and helped us find acceptance as she had. A celebration of Audrey's life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home on Thursday, December 6, at 2:00 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are Kathy, Geoff, Jess, Sandro, Danny, Nick and Adrienne. Audrey, along with her family, would like to extend their appreciation to the 4th and 7th floor staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Home Care Staff, and a special thank-you to Kanko and Maria. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Post-Polio Network (Manitoba) Inc. (204) 975-3037 or a charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Dear Bob & Family: Audrey and I go back a lot of years of working together at St. B in the Medical Transcription area. She was a very good employee, knew her terminology and took pride in her work. She was very pleased for me when I became supervisor of the area, and continued to do her share of the workload. She was always so proud of you Bob and the children. I met you again in Dr. Gorski's office and her friendly manner and smile had not changed. God Bless you and your family Bob. My sincere condolences, Jeannine Paradis - Posted by: Jeannine Paradis (Friend & co-worker) on: Dec 05, 2012

Our sincerest condolences go out to everyone. She was a shining example of making lemonade from lemons. From everything she did for everyone, you would never know she did it from a wheelchair until you saw her sitting there. She was always smiling and worrying about everyone else. Audrey and I had a very meaningful phone conversation when my own mother passed away. They were both ready to go and in their faith are waiting for all of us at heaven's gates. You are in our thoughts and prayers, Bob. - Posted by: Al & Gayleen Nixon (Close friends of Audrey's daughter) on: Dec 04, 2012
