GEORGE EDWARD (TED) POULTER October 2, 1937 - December 12, 2012 Predeceased by parents George and Edith Poulter. Survived by wife of 52 years, Edna, daughter Pamela (Kevin Friesen), son John (Linda Yeo), grandchildren Aaron, Thomas, Cole, Jonas Friesen, Megan and Isaac Poulter and brother Jack of Victoria and his family. Ted lived in St. Vital almost all his life, attended Norberry and Glenlawn schools and St John's College. For thirty years he worked for the St. Vital School Division as a teacher and administrator. His life was exemplified by service to his community, whether as a hockey coordinator, St. Vital Teachers Society President, St. Vital Teachers Curling, and latterly on the Provincial board of the Retired Teachers' Association of Manitoba. Ted loved the outdoors, and Grass River Provincial Park (Iskwasum) was a special summer vacation destination. Breezy Point and the family cabin for fifty years was also key in his life. Above all of that, being in the bleachers for his grandchildren's games was a highlight of his life. The Community of St. John's College was dear to his heart. Donations to the Ted and Edna Poulter Scholarship Fund would be welcome or to a charity of your choice. Memorial Service to be held on Tuesday, December 18 at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's College Chapel, University of Manitoba. Parking in Q lot. Reception to follow.

Condolences & Memories (21 entries)

  • I was lucky enough to be president of Dakota Collegiate (1971) the same year Mr Poulter took over for Mr Nowasad as principal. We made a good team. He let myself and the student council try new things. Some that didn’t work but some that continue to this day. He taught me that Caring Sharing Enthusiasm and Trust wins every time. - Posted by: Robert Nash (Student) on: Apr 09, 2023

  • Mr. Poulter was kind to me when I attended Dakota Collegiate in the late 60's and early 70's. Later, I became a teacher and had the opportunity to sub at St. George's while he was principal. Years later, when I contacted him, I was so impressed and grateful that he remembered me and provided a reference, so that I could begin a teaching career in B.C. I will remember him fondly and with gratitude. - Posted by: Barb Dayco (student and teacher) on: Feb 19, 2016

  • Mr. Poulter was my math teacher at Dakota in the late 1960s. I can still hear his voice, masking his frustration in trying to teach me the fundamentals of algebra. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. Deepest sympathies to his family. - Posted by: Dunc Malcolm (Former student) on: Dec 20, 2012

  • I attended Dakota Collegiate when Mr Poulter was Vice Principal and Mr Nowasad was Principal. I did not know it at the time, but have since realized that Dakota was the best school if you count quality education, a safe environment, teachers who cared about students and lots of fun. What else can a school provide? Thanks to Mr Poulter and Mr Nowasad I went to an amazing collegiate. May Mr poulter rest in peace.
