SIGRID INGRID CHIZAWSKY (nee KOPFF) November 28, 1941 - December 16, 2012 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of their mother and grandmother on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the age of 71 years, after a courageous battle fighting cancer. She was predeceased by her father Theodor Kopff (1963), mother Paulina Nommennsen (1987), sister Ingrid (1939), and brothers Reinhold (1941), Vittorio (1978). She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michael, Melvin (Kimberly), Monica (Eric), and her grandchildren Thomas and Alyssa Groth, Derek and Alexander Chizawsky. She is survived by her sisters Renate Regelsky and Edda Doell along with their many children and grandchildren. Sigrid was born in Bremerhaven, Germany. As a young teenager, she immigrated to Canada on July 4, 1958 to commence a new life. She started her Canadian life journey in Jasper, AB as a young waitress in a local restaurant. She then met and married a young man where they moved to Uranium City, SK where she had her three children. One of her proudest achievements was becoming a Canadian citizen on June 18, 1969. In 1970 she moved herself and her children to Winnipeg, MB where she remained until her death. In 1975 Sigrid became a faithful, long time employee of K-Mart and Zellers. Sigrid created many friends wherever she lived and loved enjoying the friendship of her fellow co-workers and her many neighbours. In her retirement years, she lived to spoil her grandchildren. The children of Sigrid want to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital (N1 South) who cared for and loved her in her final days to ensure that she was pain free. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life was held at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day St. (Transcona) on Thursday, December 20 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Manitoba CancerCare Centre.
