MARY CARMEL ROBERTA (FRASER) GREATRIX Peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, our beloved Carmel passed away at Riverview Health Centre in her 82nd year. Carmel is survived by her husband, John Greatrix, her daughters Cheryl Chase (Robin) and Nancy Tremblay, her sons Mark Greatrix (Crystal) and David Greatrix, her grandchildren Colin and Hilary Tremblay, and her brother Raymond Fraser of Fredericton, N.B. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Ursula Fraser, and her sister Helen Fraser. Carmel was born on April 27, 1930, in Chatham, New Brunswick. She graduated from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in Chatham as a Registered Nurse in 1950. On April 14, 1952, she married a Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot, John Greatrix, who was stationed at the Chatham air base. Last April, they marked their 60th wedding anniversary. As an Air Force wife, Carmel lived in North Bay, Ontario; Grostenquin, France; Portage la Prairie, Manitoba; Ottawa, Ontario; Lahr, Germany; Winnipeg, Manitoba; then back to Ottawa before finally settling in Winnipeg in 1991. Mom enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and cooking. Her favourite times were when she could be with all her children and grandchildren, especially at Christmas. The family would like to thank the staff that cared for Carmel at CancerCare Manitoba, St. Boniface Hospital and Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of your choice in memory of Carmel. So very sorry John to hear of your sad loss. We recall fondly the pretty girl who lived on the hill leading to the church and school. And I recall your personal patience with me in St. Hubert as I returned to flying after a tour in the Middle East.
