STANLEY PUZNICKI Passed away peacefully in his sleep in his 97th year, New Year's Day morning, January 1, 2013. Stan was born in Winnipeg on June 29, 1916, the eldest of six. He was predeceased by his siblings, Michael, Tilly, Helen, Margaret, William and, in 2001, by his wife of 57 years, Ksenia. He is survived by his two daughters, Louise Scuby (Joe) and Donna Bigras (Wayne Prentis) of Victoria; grandsons, Joshua Scuby, Matthew Scuby (Kathleen) and great-grandsons, Charlie and Stanley and a third great-grandchild due in February, all of Toronto. Being the eldest child during the depression, Stan supported his mother and siblings after the early, untimely death of his father. Stan proudly served his country in the Second World War in the Aleutian Islands. He went on to work for J.I. Case Co. for 33 years, retiring to Victoria in 1988, where he joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, his favourite posting being Government House. He enjoyed travelling, visiting his daughters during their various moves around the world. Up until recently, Stan embraced new technology - loving the computer and the places it was able to take him. Always a news junky, a morning did not pass without his reading the Winnipeg Free Press, Washington Post and London Times. Stan was a character , especially the past six and one half years at the Lodge at Broadmead, for whom we must thank for their time, patience, kindness, compassion and exemplary care. A Funeral Service will be held at McCall's Downtown, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, at 1:00 pm. on Friday, January 4, 2013 with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broadmead Care Society, 4579 Chatterton Way, Victoria, BC VBX 4Y7. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Uncle Stanley was a great man. He had a smile that would light up a room, his sense of humor and his kindness. I am so sorry to hear of his passing Louise, Donna and family may it comfort you to know he is with all his brother's and sister's baba and gigi and of course aunty Ksenia. May god comfort you all at this time. - Posted by: Sandra Paquette (Puznicki) (Niece) on: Jan 05, 2013

  • As an ex-Winnipeger living in Victoria and volunteering at the Broamead Lodge, I looked forward to my time serving the residence tea and in particular enjoyed conversations with Stan. I had been looking forward to seeing him again next week as I had been away for 3 months. He enjoyed telling me about his time in Wpg. and how he landed his job at JI Case (quessing that was it). Felt a connection with him with my being an ex- Winnipegger and having a mother who was Ukarainan. He never would fail to complement me if he felt I looked good that day but also would be honest if I didn't. Sorry for your families loss and he certainly will be missed. - Posted by: Saundra (friend and tea server at Broadmead Lodge ) on: Jan 04, 2013
