GLADYS MARY MCCULLOCH Gladys passed away peacefully in her 92nd year on January 1, 2013. While troubled by mobility problems and age related dementia in recent years, she was active until several days prior to her passing. She was able to enjoy Christmas celebrations with her family at Tuxedo Villa where she had been a resident for the past three years. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, George who passed away in 1981. She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Dora and Pearl and her youngest son, Dale who left us on Christmas Day in 2010. She is survived by two sons, Dave (Darlene), Jim (Lynn) and Dale's wife Angie, as well as her special nephew Jack (Yvonne). She also leaves eight grandchildren, Greg (Jodi), Jennifer, Craig, Lisa, Chris, Riel, Joel and Allison, and three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Cole and Gracie. Gladys was born in Killarney, Manitoba where she grew up, was married and started a family. While she worked in a grocery store during her early years, she devoted herself to raising a family and maintaining her home. In 1967, she and George moved to Winnipeg for business reasons; a move that was difficult for her in terms of leaving her life in Killarney. Like many people, change was not something that she took to easily. In Winnipeg, she was a strong member of the Anglican Church as she had been all her life in Killarney. She was active in bowling, curling and swimming for a number of years. Going downtown to Eaton's or The Bay was always a source of enjoyment but she did have a habit of returning many of the items she initially purchased and trying something different. She enjoyed her trips to Victoria with her sister Pearl as well as several bus trips and trips to visit family members. Gladys was renowned as a great cook and especially a great baker. She enjoyed it and those who partook in the results enjoyed it even more. Some of her recipes will carry on for years to come. In more recent years, she has had challenges with mobility issues that increasingly restricted her activities. However, she loved her home and was able to remain in her house until the past three years thanks to help from friends, neighbours, family and home care. In the past three years, she has resided at Tuxedo Villa, difficult at first but gradually she found it more like home thanks to the staff and her relationships with other residents. As increasing levels of dementia became evident in her last years, she was always able to recall the happy times of her life in Killarney. Gladys left us very peacefully as the New Year dawned. Cremation has already occurred. A memorial service will be conducted at Holy Trinity Church, Killarney, Manitoba on Saturday, January 12 at 1:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined.
