MARY FRANCES FINCH It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother on Thursday, January 3, 2013. Left remembering her fondly are her children, Darlene (Les) Kazmir and Ron (Nancy) Thorne-Finch; grandchildren, Shauna (Cary) Hawkins, Jesse Thorne-Finch and Michael Thorne-Finch; nieces and nephews; cousins; and many close friends. Mary was predeceased by her father Walter Bisiuk (1955); mother Sophie Bisiuk (1982); sole sibling Marilyn Weaver (1986); husband Al Finch (2005); and cousin Terry Bisiuk (2008) Mary was born on April 29, 1927, in the east end of Transcona. She loved Transcona where she and her family developed many close friends. Mary attended Central School and later enrolled in the Manitoba Commercial College (MCC). Upon graduation she worked for the Queen's Printer and then as a secretary for 21 years with the Transcona-Springfield School Division at Westview and Central schools where she made many life-long friends. Mary met the love of her life Al Finch and they were married in 1947. The rest, as Mary and Al often said, "was history"! They enjoyed 58 years together. Their first child, Darlene, was born in 1951 and their second child, Ron, in 1958. Later she also thoroughly enjoyed her three grandchildren: Shauna (1979), Jesse (1987) and Michael (1993). Grandma always loved following their many milestones, making a special recipe that one or another of the grandchildren enjoyed and bringing them back presents from the various road trips. Over the years, Mary enjoyed having friends and family over and entertaining. Family birthdays and celebrations were always fun and the food tasty. Mary and Al took many road trips with their kids and later in retirement became annual snowbirds to Hawaii and Arizona. The last few years have been a bit more challenging yet Mary always enjoyed visiting friends and family. Mary died peacefully in her sleep. The family has many thanks to the wonderful staff at Riverview, Misericordia and Park Manor Personal Care. Respecting Mary's wishes cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of her Life was held at Wheeler Funeral Home on Sunday, January 6, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Canada in her honour.
