Maryalice and I had the privilege of visiting with D'Arcy in June of 1992 when we started full-timing in a 5th Wheel. He was a most gracious host and we alway remember that time and appreciate his forwarding the most interesting e-mails - Posted by: Robert C. Gordon (2nd Cousin) on: Mar 27, 2013

D'Arcy has always been a mentor to me and set a great example for our unit. His strong support, dry sense of humour and of course his wealth of knowledge regarding the regiment can not be replaced. D'Arcy had a quiet passion for that which he loved - his family and the military fellowship to which he belonged. My mother, his cousin, was the recipient of his many kindnesses during her long illness, and for this we will always be grateful. Our thoughts to all his family. - Posted by: Leslie & Ken Tsai and Family (Cousin) on: Jan 15, 2013

We are so happy to have had times to share with D'Arcy in Winnipeg and London. We thank him for the email jokes--many were forwarded on for others to get a laugh out of. He had impressive knowledge of the PPCLI's history and we learned a lot from him. He was a good man--we won't forget his past kindness to our mom, driving her many times to the hospital when she required rides. We wish you peace, D'Arcy. I had the privilege of knowing WBro D'Arcy Best through Gateway/Millenium Lodge, AF&AM from 1986 through 1995. He was a gentleman and a gentle man, knowledgeable and always dignified in his carriage. I respected D'Arcy and his counsel always; he earned my respect right from the day of my initiation. He will always be remembered. Rest in Peace, Brother. - Posted by: Albert van Huizen (Brother Mason) on: Jan 14, 2013

Not only did I lose my dear brother, but I also lost a great family/military historian. Although it has only been recently I have actually gotten to really know Dare on a one-to-one basis since he retired, I learned a lot about Canada's military history and the PPCLI from him. I am so very proud of my big brother and will miss his annual visits dearly. - Posted by: Charmaine () on: Jan 14, 2013

My husband and I had the honor of knowing D'arcy for the past 4 1/2 years. He was an incredible man, a man of honor, a man who did not demand respect but automatically received it. He slipped out of our lives just as quietly as he came into them. To say we will miss his friendship is an understatement. His pride and joy were his love of the military and his family. He spoke to us often of his step-daughter Donnna Lee, granddaughter Shannon and sister Charmaine. He also spoke highly of a niece whom he went zip-lining with but her name escapes me! We will miss that spark D'arcy and we will miss serving you Red Rose Tea and a glass of water with your lunch! You may be physically gone but forever in our hearts you will be! - Posted by: Perry & Kelly Verot (Friends) on: Jan 13, 2013

Farewell D'Arcy. You will be missed by the Regiment and the Association. Where will we find someone as steadfast as you to fill your shoes? I first met you about 55 years ago with 2 PPCLI in Edmonton and with the PPCLI Association after I retired. God Bless and happy landings. - Posted by: William Miller, CD, MWO Retired (Military Aquaintnce) on: Jan 12, 2013
