FRANK CHONSTKE October 29, 1917 - January 10, 2013 It is with deep sadness but with so many happy memories, the family announces the peaceful passing of Frank at Holy Family Nursing Home. He is survived by Doris his devoted wife and working partner of almost 65 years. To forever cherish precious memories are his daughters, Eleanor (Barry) Boyce of Texas, Sharon (Dr. John) Moncek, son Michael, grandsons Ryan (Alycia) Boyce, Adam Boyce, Andrew (Suzanne) Moncek, Matthew Moncek, Jordan Moncek, sister-in-law Marie (Frank) Graboweski, step sister, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Frank was predeceased by his father Jakub Czastkiewicz and Mother Karolina (nee Surowiec), his seven siblings Henry, Joe, Nellie, Victoria, Mary, Kay, Sophie. It is impossible to talk about Frank without using or hearing the words "kind", "friendly", "pleasant man". He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a great handyman and could repair almost anything. Frank was instrumental in building both his homes with Bill Popowich, and the Altona Motor Hotel with Frank Graboweski. Frank was born and raised in Cooks Creek as a country boy who helped his father and mother work the farm and take produce to market in Winnipeg. At an early age he was looking for a better life and found work in Tin Town (Red Lake Area) of Ontario in the gold mines. He met his dear wife Doris in 1945, married in 1948 and they created a very ambitious life with a cafeteria business in MacDonald Brothers Aircraft, Winnipeg, a hotel business in Hamiota, a hotel business in Altona and a perogy business in Winnipeg. Through his life, Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman who eagerly and patiently taught these skills to anyone who was a willing participant. The Eleanor Lake cottage was a family retreat for over 50 years where family, friends and neighbours created memories for so many to savour. Thank you for the memories. Prayers will be held at Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Andrews, 160 Euclid Avenue on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Andrews, 160 Euclid Avenue, on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. where Fr. Aunt Doris, Eleanor,Sharon, Michael and families. I wish to express my deepest sympathy! The world has truly lost a great man. Uncle Frank was one of the kindest, gentlest people that I have ever known. I have very fond memories of the numerous times Uncle Frank took me to the farm. I can remember one time in particular that he stopped by to see if anyone would like to go with him. I was playing outside with my friends and did't want to quit the game. When I finally did come in. Uncle Frank was gone! I was devastated! I had missed my Uncle Frank! Believe me, I never did that again. From then on, as soon as I saw his car or heard that he was over, I ran in. Uncle Frank was very respected in the family. I often heard my mom speak of how smart, kind and gentle he was. She would say that he was the "Smart One". I'm sure that it was a glorious day in heaven when Uncle Frank joined his Mom, dad, brothers and sisters. He will be sadly missed by everyone. I am so sorry that I am not able to be at the funeral today, but was so happy to see you, Aunt Doris at the prayers. My thoughts and prayers will be with you today and always.
