Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE WALTER CODE January 10, 1928 - January 19, 2013 It is with saddened hearts the Code family announces the passing of George Walter Code. Dad passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2013 with family by his side. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 65 years, Geraldine. Walter and Gerry had 12 children - Don, Doug, Wally, Earl, Cathy, Judy, Donna, Tom, Sandra, Dennis, Vicki and Keith; 34 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Dennis and his grandson Bryce. Dad began a distinguished career with the Canadian National Railway in 1943 as a telegraph operator. His dedication and commitment to the job remained throughout his career and he retired as Senior Chief Train Dispatcher in Winnipeg in 1983. He will always be remembered for his incredible work ethic. Dad enjoyed spending time with his family over many summers at Star Lake, Otter Falls, Spruce Sands and Morden Meadows, fishing, golfing, playing cards, and waterskiing. Dad had a lifelong love of sports and he excelled as an athlete, participating in a variety of sports including curling, golfing, billiards, and hockey. He passed on his passion for sports to his children and grandchildren. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the staff at Meadowood Manor for creating a loving home environment for Dad the past five years. They would also like to thank Sheryl Shaw for her gentle and caring support. No words can describe the impact of what you gave to Mr. Code. Special thanks also to Pastor Dave and Darlene Holland. And to Mom, Dad's angel on earth - your devotion and commitment are an inspiration to us all. Funeral service will be held at Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home, 577 St. Anne's Road on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meadowood Manor Foundation Inc. or to a charity of one's choice. You tried so hard to stay with us But a cure was not to be, And so God took you by the hand And said Come home to me Mom Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. A real top knotch Chief who was well respected by his boys and colleagues. He was an inspiration to me in my railroading career. I will always remember the fun times golfing & curling with Walter and also his stories and laughter during social ocassions.
