ELVINA (MAISIE) HALHEAD Peacefully, on January 27, 2013, Elvina (Maisie) Halhead passed away at the age of 88. Maisie lived a long and happy life. She touched many people with her kindness and generosity and she will be sadly missed. She will be reunited with her parents Walter and Ida Halhead; her brothers James Walter, Edward Clarence and Jack Francis, and nephew Wayne Edward. Maisie will be remembered by her niece Joyce and (Ron) Gauthier; her nephews: Walter Joseph (Jane Gao) and her daughter Julie Gao; Keith and (Debbie) and their sons Michael (Jana Ireland) and her daughter Piper, and Jeffrey. She will also be remembered by her sisters-in-law Rita and Roberta, and her cousin Sister Ange Fouasse. Maisie had many friends and neighbours: Jackie and Jim Cooke and their children Robert, Matthew and Breanne; also Roger Leroeye, Jean Auld and Erna Schilder. They gave her rides, prepared home cooked meals for her, cleared her snow, cut her grass and made it possible for her to stay in her home as long as she did. She was always grateful for their support. Maisie was born on May 24, 1924 in Nesbitt, Manitoba. She spent her early years in Pipestone, Manitoba and attended Brandon College. She was employed with the Royal Bank in Roblin for three years and then 30 years with the Provincial Government Departments of Social Welfare and Health. Maisie had a long and fulfilling retirement with travel adventures to many parts of the world including Rome and Israel. Her favourite pastime was entertaining with both family and friends. Maisie was a long time member of the Catholic Women's League, Christ the King Church, and an Associate of the Ursuline Sisters. Her kindness and generosity were examples of her strong faith. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department and A6 Family Medicine for your compassion, caring manner and very human touch. Over the last two weeks Maisie said many times "They are so good to me". A special thanks to Kirk, Darlene, Heidi and Anita, you were so kind and thoughtful. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Christ the King Parish. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Christ the King Parish. Interment will follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Reception will be held at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to: Christ the King Parish, 847 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg, Manitoba R2M 3P6; League for Life, 579 Des Meurons St., Winnipeg, Manitoba R2H 2P6, or to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I am reading Maisie's obit 12 yrs too late. I think of her from time to time. She was our Manager. She was always patient and fair. Maisie was the kind of person that always made you want to make her proud of you. She was an inspiration. - Posted by: Patricia Kupchak (Co-worker at Dept of Health) on: Jul 11, 2025

  • I returned to active ministry about 7 years ago at Christ the King parish. Maisie figured prominently among the pillars of holiness in that place. Since then, many of those special people have gone home to the Father. Maisie is the last in my mind. God bless her for her witness of discipleship which was so obvious. And, God bless her that, as she become more deaf, her "Amens" didn't become subdued but became all the more confident. We always knew she was there at mass. God's speed Maisie. Rest in peace. Much love. - Posted by: Fr. Phil Daley (Friend ) on: Jan 31, 2013

  • Maisie and my Mother, Margaret Murphy, had a close friendship for more than 50 years. Whether they were worshiping at Christ The King Church or sharing girlfriend chatter while they sipped wine at a dinner party, their hours together were the stuff of which lifetime memories are made. Maisie will be deeply missed. - Posted by: Barbara Murphy, Victoria BC (friend) on: Jan 31, 2013

  • Masie was a lifelong dear friend of my mother, Margaret, who will miss her very much. I had dinner with Masie in September and she was delightful.
