WALTER (WALLY) THURSTON March 26, 1936 - January 27, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter (Wally) Thurston on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 76, after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barb; three daughters Debbie (Ernie), Sandy (Ken), Deanna (Dale); son Brent (Debbie) and daughter-in-law Michelle. Wally has 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepfather Rene Garand, sister Irene Nolin, Ron Thurston, Howard Thurston, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Clarise Garand and brother Don Thurston. Wally worked for La Farge Concrete for 35 years, he enjoyed going to Penticton, BC every summer. Wally had a strong passion for his grandsons hockey games, outings with the family and going to Shooting Star Casino bus trips with his wife. Wally has numerous friends and family. The family would like to send a special thanks to the nurses on 5E at St. Boniface Hospital and CancerCare for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery Crematorium, 1800 Day Street at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wally's name to CancerCare Manitoba. I knew Wally my whole life and he was always such a happy person with something funny to say.He was a very caring compassionate man especially with his grandchildren.There are so many great memories we will always have.Thank you Wally for theses great memories and fun times we shared as a family. I knew Wally or as I know him Papa Wally practically all of my life. He was a great Father, Grandfather, friend and husband to Barb.
