PIERRE (PETER) A. MARTIN (Formerly of St. Claude, Manitoba) October 2, 1920 - February 16, 2013 Peacefully, at Deer Lodge Centre, Peter Martin passed away at the age of 92. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Doralis, parents Jean and Sildonie, brothers, Andre, Paul, Jean, Charles, and sister Germaine. Peter leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Corae, Karen (Adam), Pamela, and Greg (Lisa), his grandchildren, Jeff, Kurt, Sarina, Richard, Dina, Eleasha, Carolyn, Steven, Eric and Shaun, and his eight great-grandchildren. Peter was born and raised in St. Claude, Manitoba. He served in Europe with the Canadian Army in the Second World War from 1940 to 1946 as a motorcycle dispatch rider. He was the pitcher for the St. Claude baseball team prior to the war. Dad became an electrician after the war and worked construction in the Winnipeg area. He helped with the installation of the D.E.W. line, early warning radar system in the Canadian North. Dad finished his working career retiring as an electrician for the St. Boniface School Board. Peter was hard working, and always moved forward no matter what the circumstances. He never asked for much and enjoyed some simple things, like a good joke, and would respond with a heartfelt laugh. He tried to make it to the horse races a couple of times a year and always enjoyed camping and boating. He always put others before himself. He was a generous man, shy at times. Peter was a Second World War veteran, but true to his nature, would only tell stories of the humorous events involved in Army life. He was fond of talking about his childhood in St. Claude and growing up with his brothers and sister in the St. Claude Hotel that his father owned. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Peter will always be missed by all.
