GORDON M. HOLMBERG (SWEDE) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Sr., on February 24, 2013, beloved father, grandfather (Pop) and great-grandfather (Great-Pop). Predeceased by his wife Margaret, father Peter, mother Dorothea, brothers Norman, Jimmie, Leonard, Eddie, Vern, and sister Carol. Left to mourn are his son Gordon (Wanda); grandson Kris (Genevieve), their children, Nikolas, Taylor-Raye, Brayden, and Olivia; and granddaughter Jennifer, and her children Hannah and Callie. Dad was born on December 30, 1927 and lived most of his life in Transcona. On February 17, 1951 he married the love of his life Margaret (Cockbill) and they celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2011 just before her death. Dad started and ended his work career with the C.N.R. He retired as a conductor in 1982. As a young lad, Dad started with C.N. as a call boy (before phone service). Many a time he would borrow a bike from the old Palma to do his duty. If the owner came out and the bike wasn't back, it was a good excuse to go back in and have another drink until Swede brought the bike back. In his retirement Dad enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and made annual trips to Vegas with Margaret. He was an avid gardener and his flowers and garden were his pride and joy in the summer. At his request, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
