Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARETTA MCKEEN May 30, 1925 - February 22, 2013 It is with broken hearts Margaretta McKeen's family sadly must announce, she passed away at 1:30 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Concordia Hospital, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Margaretta was born May 30, 1925 in Winnipeg, the daughter of William and Christian Watson. She was united in marriage to George McKeen in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Margaretta was preceded in her passing by her parents, husband, and three brothers: Bill Watson, Tom Watson, and George Watson all born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her passing was also preceded by two daughters Georgetta Williams of Brandon, Manitoba and Margret Thorne of Vegreville, Alberta. Margaretta was a music lover and played accordion for most of her life, switching in more recent years to the electric organ. Amongst her many accomplishments Margaretta, in her younger years, was proud to have played back-up music for a few silent movies in local theaters. Her artistic abilities were also reflected in the art of cake decorating. Margretta took pride in the beautiful wedding, birthday, and miscellaneous cakes she made for her family and friends. She took the greatest pride in having made and decorated the 25th anniversary cake for the R.C.M.P. detachment stationed in Vegreville, Alberta. Margaretta's artistic talent also guided her into oil painting, and many of her painting now hang on the walls of her family and friends. She loved Christmas and would spend the better part of the year shopping, baking, crocheting and knitting to prepare for the event. Her generous nature was truly unequaled. She is survived by two daughters and their spouses: Norma (Klaus) Vanderveen, Vivian (Ralph) Thompson;one son William McKeen; 13 loving grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Margaretta's family wish to thank the Fire Paramedic Service of Winnipeg and the many Paramedics that attended to her needs. We wish to also thank the Emergency Department of the Concordia Hospital, especially the Triage Nurses and Emergency Physicians and all other staff members involved in Margaretta's care. The family wishes to thank all the staff at N1 South, Concordia Hospital for all the kindness, support and medical care. Margaretta's family wish to extend a very special thank you to two of Margaretta's closest and dearest friends Phyllis and Peggy. Thanks also to Tracey Carli her granddaughter and our angel. Thanks also to Alyssa and Ashlee for all their support over the last few years and thanks to Shannon and Colleen for their caring support during the last hours of Margaretta's life. Margaretta will be greatly missed by family and friends in many parts of Canada, Scotland, and Australia. For those who understand, "The Mighty Oak has fallen". Memorial Services will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, Transcona, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013, with an interment at Transcona Cemetery, 1540 Dugald Road. A memorial lunch will be served after the interment, for those who wish to return to Wheeler Funeral Home.
