JEAN MARY SOROKOWSKI September 6, 1922 - February 28, 2013 On February 28, 2013, Jean Mary Sorokowski passed away peacefully at the age of 90 at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. In 1930, Jean (then Janina Maria Zapotoczny) immigrated with her family to Manitoba from Taurow, Poland. She met her first husband, John Glufka, while working on a farm near Carman. They were wed in 1939; that year also saw the birth of her daughter, Mary. After John's death in 1966, Jean moved to Winnipeg, where she worked as a housekeeper for Kathleen Lightcap until her marriage to Murray Walker in 1976. Sadly, Murray passed away suddenly within a year of marriage. In 1978, she married Joe Sorokowski and for the remainder of her long life enjoyed many years of happiness and good health. Jean was an active churchgoer and enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. Along with her husband Joe, she volunteered for many years with the Meals on Wheels program. She had a great love of family and enjoyed visits and outings with them, whether being out at the lake, picking wild berries, fishing, or celebrating special occasions with a family supper. She will be forever cherished by her husband Joe; daughter Mary and grandchildren Cheryle and David; stepson Ron, his wife Lilia, and son Robert; stepdaughter Donna, her husband Aldo, and their daughter Selena and son Daniel; step-sisters Vickie, Mary, and Ann; stepbrother Tony; as well as extended family in Manitoba and Ontario. She was predeceased by her father John Zapotoczny, mother Victoria, stepmother Appolonia, brother Ted, sister Helen, step-brothers Frank and Stan, and stepsister Millie. She was also predeceased by a son-in-law Stan and granddaughter Sharon. Jean's family extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderfully kind and compassionate staff at St. Boniface Hospital (5E). Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd. Interment and reception to follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home and Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation on her behalf. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.
