PETER HARRY PODOLSKY October 3, 1920 - March 6, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and Didi at the Vita Personal Care Home at the age of 92. Dad was predeceased by his wife Katherine in 2000, sisters Mary Kozak, Annie Yarmie and Barbara Werbitski, brothers Mike and John. He is survived by his sister Nancy Petrowski. Left to mourn and cherish his memory are his beloved daughter Dianne (Terry) Germain, son Glenn (Wendy), and grandchildren Ashley (Marc) Toews, Kristen (Bryce), and Tyler. Dad was born on the family homestead on Lord Roberts Road to Harry and Natalka Podolsky. He spent most of his life in the Tolstoi area. As a young man he farmed and worked out west in the dry 1930s. Dad spent three and a half years in the army training as a gun layer in the 31st Heavy Battery in Prince George, BC from 1942 to 1945. Dad also worked in the Tolstoi creamery for a time. Dad played guitar in a band called the Green Jackets at dances in the southeast. It was while playing at a dance that he met Mom. They were married June 5, 1947. Eventually, Dad and Mom bought their own farm near the homestead where he was born and raised their two children. Dad was a strong willed, hard worker who took pride in farming cattle and grain. Dad enjoyed long hours on the tractor, gardening, planting his evergreens, playing cards and the odd sampling of homebrew. Didi often recalled stories of when times were hard, before the square baler, when horses were still used, cows were milked by hand and selling cream was a steady source of income. Weekends at Didi's were always filled with fun, excitement, work and wisdom. Dad was proud of his Ukrainian heritage and tradition was always observed with family gatherings. You showed us love, strength and determination, we will forever miss you. Dad stayed on the farm as long as possible, however when his health declined he became a resident of the Vita Personal Care Home. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 13, 10:30 a.m. at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, with interment to follow at St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sirko, Rev. Fr. Miron Pozniak officiating. Pallbearers are Tyler Podolsky, Glenn Podolsky, Terry Germain, Jim Krueger, Marc Toews and Bryce MacMillan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or CancerCare Manitoba. The family wishes to thank all who cared for Dad at the Vita Care Home for their dedication and compassionate care. Arrangements entrusted to Birchwood Funeral Chapel of Steinbach. Vichnaya Pam'yat
