NANCY (IRENE) FOSTER (nee DYE) Peacefully, with her family by her side, Irene Foster passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Women's Hospital, Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Ken, son Bill, grandson Bobby McQuat, sisters-in-law Joyce and Rae Dye. She is survived by her children Bob (Shirley) McQuat, Jan (John) McNarry, Gary (Gisele) Foster, Bruce (Darlene) Foster, her grandchildren, Lisa (Bryan) Meyer, Kim (Joe) Daley, Evan Foster, Justin Mellin, and Cam Foster, her great-grandchildren, Darien and Aidan Meyer and Ava Daley. She is also survived by her brothers, Bud (Joan), Jack and Ray Dye. Irene was born July 24, 1928 in Lydiatt, Manitoba. She grew up in Selkirk, later moving to Winnipeg. Mom spoke fondly of her years being employed with Pierre's Restaurant where Winnipeggers enjoyed fine dining. She met her soul mate Ken Foster in the late 1960s and they joined their families. In 1969 the family relocated to Brandon where Irene worked at the Canadian and Red Oak Inns. Ken's work for Trimac relocated them to Saskatoon in 1974. After a few years they returned to Winnipeg where Mom enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She treasured her weekends in the trailer at Ingolf. When Ken retired they purchased a cabin there which later became their retirement home. She enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, cooking and feeding the wildlife. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family, friends and neighbours. Ken and Irene also enjoyed being "Snowbirds" travelling to Mesa, Arizona. When the time came for Mom to leave the lake, she moved to Winnipeg where she continued travelling, reading, knitting, bowling, playing cards and bingo. Mom kept in contact with her old friends and continued making new ones. Mom said, "Never lose track of your friends. They are important now and always will be." We are going to miss her visits to our homes and cottages where precious time has been spent. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Irene's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2013, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. We wish to express our gratitude and thanks to Dr. Caners and his staff, the staff of Concordia and Women's Hospitals. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society. Irene was a very treasured friend of mine since we first met her and Ken 16 years ago at Ambassador Downs. Her sense of humor and enormous heart were fantastic!!! She spoke often of her children and grandchildren and loved you all enormously. She "adopted" my son and his family as her own and they did likewise! I am so greatful she came to Tempe the Christmas before last and that we had a chance to spend time together. She will be greatly missed by all of us!!! My sympathy goes out to all of you!!! God Bless you all!!!! - Posted by: Jennie Bessette (Friend) on: Mar 27, 2013

I am so happy that I called you at home a few weeks ago. You were home from the hospital for a short time and sounded so up and positive, like your old self. Since we met you and Ken in AZ, and lived across the street from you, you have been a great friend. We called one another to exchange news every so often and at the conclusion of these calls you would always add, "Give Lorne a hug for me". Well now I'm asking you, "Give Lorne a hug for me". Love you Irene and peace be yours. Sincere sympathy to your family. You will be missed. - Posted by: Bev () on: Mar 21, 2013

Mom was indeed a friend to me. She gave me a bit of a going over when I was introduced to her by her daughter Jan. She told me I'd be in big trouble if I ever did anything to hurt Jan. She knows now she didn't need to worry. Mom, Jan, Justin and I had a lot of fun together! We will miss you Mom, but you are always with us, John - Posted by: John (son-in-law, friend) on: Mar 20, 2013
