ANITA FAY SPEISS (GOODMANSON)
Date of Passing: Mar 15, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANITA FAY SPEISS (GOODMANSON) Anita Fay (Goodmanson) Speiss, at the age of 60, passed away peacefully and comfortably on March 15, 2013 after a courageous fight with brain cancer. She faced the challenge of this disease for nearly six years in the same way she had always approached life; with determination, unwavering strength, grace, poise, and dignity. Anita found joy in life's simpler offerings like an early morning breakfast in the backyard on a sunny summer day before tending to her flower gardens. She enjoyed the comfort of a cup of tea shared with friends or family (if you were ever invited to one of her tea parties then you know you truly held a special place in Anita's heart). Her open, selfless and caring personality allowed her to effortlessly form lasting bonds. As such, Anita maintained cherished friendships from her childhood in Gladstone, from her working years in Winnipeg (Richardson Greenshields, University of Manitoba, and others) and from the extended family she gained through her daughter-in-law. Time spent with these friends included anything from dinner parties and lunch dates to taking in a chick flick or a noon hour exercise class; Anita loved it all. Family, however, was Anita's true passion. She built a life with her high school love and husband of over 40 years, Louie (she looked forward to their winter trips down south where they would spend countless hours walking on the beach side by side). Together they raised their two boys, Philip and Brad into the men that they are today. Anita felt most fortunate that she had the opportunity to be "Granny" for her two beautiful granddaughters who gave her so much beaming pride and much needed hugs, smiles and laughs. We know that she will watch over us all as she did in life. If there is a positive to come out of Anita's untimely passing it's that the way she lived her life in sickness and health will forever make her an inspiration to her family and friends and a continuing role model for her sons. Anita was predeceased by her mother Sybil, father John and husband Louie. She will be lovingly remembered and honoured by her sons Philip (Susie) and Brad, two cherished granddaughters Sierra and Kinley and brother Brian and family. Special thanks go to the staff at Riverview for their care and attention. Anita will be laid to rest with her husband in the Family niche at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. You will always be loved and never forgotten, as a piece of you will live on in your sons and grandchildren. Remembering all the happy & wonderful times we shared, and the not-so-good sad times, too, as all these things molded us into the friends we became till you left to watch over us all from above. I miss you, Anita, and think of you everyday. Rest in peace, dear friend, you were one of the best! Love always, Jeanne - Posted by: Jeanne Unrau (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2014

Precious was the soul that was Anita. I will treasure our fun times, sad times, and especially how she taught me to be strong without saying a single word. I love and miss you my sista-friend. I hope you got a blue sun hat when you arrived in your special paradise! Hugs to the children who have both lost so much when their parents passed, but who have also gained a strength and compassion for others because of what they've also been though. To extended family and friends, we will truly miss both Anita and Louie, but know they are healed now, forever. - Posted by: Chris (and Larry) Cowan (coworker, gym buddy, and friend) on: Jul 25, 2013

My heartfelt sympathy to Phil, Brad & family. Your Mom will always hold a special place in my heart. She and I became friends during her time with the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the U. of M. I will always remember her beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humour and bubbly personality. When I retired 10 years ago and moved to Alberta, we continued to stay close by e-mail and phone. I will forever appreciate her support when I went through a difficult health situation seven years ago. It has been a privilege to be her friend. - Posted by: Mona Anderson (Friend and co-worker at the University of Manitoba) on: Apr 03, 2013

Growing up so far away from Aunt Anita and Uncle Louie, my childhood visits were always special. Louie's humor and Anita's warmth always made an impression. My heart goes out to Brad, Phil and family. I know what it's like to lose your mom too early. If you need anything at all let me know. You will be missed Anita. - Posted by: Matthew Goodmanson (nephew) on: Apr 02, 2013

My husband Derek worked with Anita's husband Louie at Videon Cable TV for many years. The four of us socialized quite a bit back then. Anita came dressed as Carmen Miranda to a halloween party we hosted. Her head was covered a foot high in plastic fruit. It was hilarious. I also have fond memories of the many Videon Christmas parties we attended. Anita always sparkled in her turquoise colored dresses and red hair. We shared many laughs together then, and we enjoyed dinners at each other's homes too, as we lived only several blocks away. There were lots of silly, good times, back then, when Philip and Brad were little boys and their lives were lived fully. So sad that Anita and Louie left so soon. Peace to all of you who are grieving for them. Leslie Fingler and Derek Fingler - Posted by: Leslie & Derek Fingler (friend) on: Apr 02, 2013

Words fall short of expressing our sorrow for your great loss, Phil & family, and Brad. I first met your Mom in 1973 when we worked together at National Grain, and we became instant friends! Our friendship blossomed to include our husbands, and later on, our families. We enjoyed many camping trips, holiday get aways, dinner parties, fun evenings, and lastly, your Mom's wonderful tea parties! We will miss her very much, but our memories will keep her always near. Rest in Peace, dear friend. Lovingly, Jeanne & Dave Unrau - Posted by: Dave & Jeanne Unrau (Family Friends) on: Mar 26, 2013

My condolences go out to Philip and his family and Brad. I worked with Anita at Richardson's. She always spoke highly of her boys and her life revolved around them. We went to fitness classes at noon together and she rarely missed a class. She always took pride in her work, attire, family and home. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Janice Frykas (co-worker) on: Mar 23, 2013
