Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR JAMES ASKEW November 24, 1924 - March 24, 2013 It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Mr. Arthur James Askew on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Victoria General Hospital. Arthur was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Doreen (Anita Marie) Askew (nee Desrochers), on April 10, 2006 and his son Paul Edwin Askew on July 10, 1984; his brothers Edward, John, and his sisters Hattie, Doris, Stella, Elsye, Kay and Grace. Arthur is survived by his daughters, Linda Rudachek (Allen Hinds), Diana Quilty, Claire McGuire (Craig), Susan Coutts, Cecile Tunstead (Steve); his grandchildren, Michelle (Rudachek), Christine (Rudachek), Jason (Pineo), Ryan (Quilty), Laura (Quilty), Brandy (McGuire), Jennifer (Coutts), Elizabeth (Coutts), Shane (Tunstead); his great-grand-children, Ximena, Danica, Kirby, Kasper, Melina and Arnulfo Jr., and his great-great- granddaughter Kitana. He also leaves his brother Richard Askew. Arthur was born in Chatfield (Fish Lake School District), MB and moved to Winnipeg with his family when he was a small child. In 1943, during the Second World War, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the RCAF earning the Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1935 to 1945. After the war he was released then joined up again from 1955 to 1966, earning the Canada Decoration. He was later employed at Motor Coach Industries until his retirement in 1990. Arthur was a man who brought people together, with a family that spans into a fifth generation, which is important. He was kind, generous, and funny - keeping his sense of humour to the very end. He was a man of quiet grace and all who knew him instantly liked him, he will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint), a viewing will be held from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Interment then reception to follow. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Victoria General Hospital. A special thanks to Nurse Katherine who went above and beyond to ease his transition. Thanks also to Pastor Sam Doerksen for his friendship and assistance during this most difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Lung Association. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Did not have the internet at the time of Uncle's death. Condolences to my cousins. Your Dad was a good man. Loved his sense of humour. I am so saddened by the passing of all my Aunts and Uncles on my Father's side of the family. Have wonderful memories of all my extended family especially growing up. Difficult to stay in touch now that I live in Chilliwack BC. - Posted by: denise desrochers (NIECE) on: Aug 03, 2014
