JACK CORNWELL Peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Victoria General Hospital, Jack Cornwell passed away at the age of 88 years. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Betty, their children: Cathy Cornwell Brown (George Foster), Leslie Cornwell (Glenn Paulley), Kim (Brian) Hagan, grandchildren: Aaron, Erika, Samantha, Andrew, Ryan, brother-in-law Jim (Viv) Pearn, nieces Lynne, Patti, and favourite nephew Kenny. Jack and Betty were married for 60 years. He was always a jokester and a true family man. He was a volunteer for 30 years at the Y.M.C.A. He completed several Manitoba Marathons and came in 3rd in his age category in his 60s where he received a Bronze Medal. He always encouraged his family to be physically fit even if the girls rode in the car to each pit stop to cheer him on. He served in the Second World War and was stationed in Halifax. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at The United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota with Reverend Hope Mattus officiating. A private family interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A special thank you, to the absolutely lovely nurses and Dr. Cavers, for their loving care given to Jack and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memory of Jack, to the Manitoba Marathon Foundation, or the charity of one's choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. My wife and I are very sorry to hear this announcement. We are grateful we had time with Jack and Betty, through the United Church in Meadowood. Jack and Betty were leaders and positive role models, in our St. Vital community. Many times we would worship, work and laugh with Jack. I believe he is having a good laugh with Jesus, right now, as he looks on his wonderful family and loving friends. We have Betty and her family in our prayers at the United Church in Meadowood. My mother and father, Bobbie and Don Purdey, at Seine River residence also send their sincere regrets, on Jack's passing. God Bless Betty and her family, from the Purdeys. - Posted by: Douglas and Loraine Purdey (Friends from UCiM) on: Apr 27, 2013

So sorry we aren't able to attend the service today but our thoughts and prayers are with you. We always enjoyed Jack's sense of humor and had lots of good times at the lake. Scott still remembers the time that your Dad took him canoeing. Glenna and Barry - Posted by: Glenna and Barry () on: Apr 27, 2013

My thoughts and prayers are with the Cornwell family. I just saw all of you, in March, and remember thinking how well Jack looked. You are a wonderful family and I know how much you cared for your dad/Jack. I will be thinking about all of you tomorrow. - Posted by: Lori Mohr-Wells (Friend of Family) on: Apr 26, 2013
