We have known JoAnne since Temple Baptist Days in Montreal where she became actively involved reaching out to street addicts. Then she went to Friendly Home to serve orphans and from there to UGM in Wpg. I remember her washing the feet of a street man and showing great compassion towards multitudes of homeless and needy people. Jesus words: "Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me" certainly applied to JoAnne. Her testimony of the great exchange of how Jesus took her rags and exchanged it for his robes of righteousness always touched our hearts. She is one of his trophies that will be missed in Winnipeg. With sincere sympathy to family. Bill and Eileen McNairn - Posted by: Bill and Eileen McNairn (Her Former Pastor and co-worker at UGM) on: May 02, 2013

I can't begin to understand or explain the effect Joanne has had on my life and I'm sure so many others. Just having the pleasure of her company every month for 2 or so hours was something that I looked forward to. You brought my family and I so much joy through the years you will be missed deeply. I thought I would share a card that Joanne had given me, that I've kept in my wallet all these years: Women who change the world There are women who make things better... Simply by showing up. There are women who make things happen. There are women who make their way. There are women who make a difference. And women who make us smile. There are women of wit and wish who- through strength and courage make it through. There are women who change the world every day... Women like you Joanne. I will strive every day to be half the women you were. Love you and miss you forever - Posted by: Courtney Regier (Friend, hairdresser ) on: Apr 30, 2013

A note to a friend: I am so blessed to have been able to call you my friend. I loved you, the ministry you were involved in and the many friends that you introduced us to from Forward House. When you first went to the hospital in December, and Leo and I went to see you, one of the things you said was, "Donna, I want you to play at my funeral." I told you I would be honoured to play but I wasn't ready to do that yet. Well now the time has come; you are no longer with us, but with the Lord and you are no longer suffering, but free from all the pain. I will miss you, our chats, and praying together. Love, Donna David and Eli: We are so sorry for your loss but you are blessed to have had Jo-Anne in your lives. We love you and will continue to pray for you as you go through this very difficult time. Leo and Donna - Posted by: Donna Jansens (friend) on: Apr 29, 2013

For so many years we knew we could count on looking over and seeing Jo-Anne and her crew in those first few benches at church. We are so glad she came and open up a window for us to see a wonderful ministry just down the street from us and help us grow to reach out to those living there. We are glad she is no longer suffering but she sure will be missed. - Posted by: Rob and Sandy Lissenberg (friend (EKBC)) on: Apr 29, 2013

Jo-Anne was a blessing to our family. She helped us in prayer and many practical ways within her ministry at Forward House. She was a feisty woman with much love, grace, and unconditional love. If it were not for her, me and my family would not be together. Praise the Lord, we are celebrating 20+ years together! She challenged us, she loved us, and she loved our boys with all her heart. I am so grateful for her and will miss her. My deepest condolences to the entire family. May her love, her generous spirit, and her ministry continue on through those who love her. - Posted by: Deanna & Albert Ratt () on: Apr 28, 2013

Dave, I am sorry to hear about your loss. I wish I had the opportunity to meet Jo-Anne. She sure was a beautiful woman and it sounds like she was just as beautiful on the inside. I am happy that she was able to come into your life and touch your heart in the way that she did. It is unfortunate that she was taken so soon but she is in a better place and she is not suffering anymore. My thoughts go out to you and your family. My deepest condolences. - Posted by: Stevie (Friend) on: Apr 28, 2013

I met Jo-Anne 9 years ago when I went to visit Forward House in a professional capacity. Throughout the years I referred many clients to Forward House. When Jo-Anne knew there was a need; she never said no. When there was no room she miraculously made room. Her kindness, caring and devotion to the residents of Forward House was always evident. She ministered to those who society had discarded. It was not long before I counted Jo-Anne as a friend not just a colleague. Her strong belief in God was always evident. Even when she received the news of her terminal illness, she worried more about how everyone else was doing than her own feelings. She made it very clear that although she would have liked more time on this earth; she was ready to go to be with the Lord. She said she was "packed" and ready to go. Jo-Anne indeed "fought the good fight." The legacy of Forward House will live on through her devoted staff. Although she will be missed terribly it is comforting to know she is free from pain and has joined our beloved Father. There is truly another angel in heaven and I know she will watch over all who knew and loved her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and the staff and men of Forward House. May God give us all the strength and courage to carry on her work. Until we meet again my friend. - Posted by: Lesley Finlay (friend) on: Apr 28, 2013

Jo-Anne was a good friend and we shared the same Love for our Lord Jesus, and His Word, and the desire to express our faith in practical ways - Isaiah 58: 6-7: 6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? She has gone to her Rest and Reward, but we who are left will carry on the Ministry that she founded & led for over 20 years, and we will all rejoice together one day soon. - Posted by: Rev Bruce I Yarrow (Long time close friend, Chair of Fwd House Ministries) on: Apr 27, 2013

David, you and Eli are very much in our thoughts and prayers. Jo-Anne did a great work at Forward House, which will never be forgotten. The influence in the lives of those men can never be underestimated. - Posted by: Bob and Millie King (Friend) on: Apr 27, 2013

My wife had a passion for allowing God to work through her to touch, comfort, share the gospel, and care for the people out there that wonder with the direction of the Lord. No words are fit to explain what a Godly person she was. It is an honour to know that she is now praising God with all her heart in the Kingdom of Heaven. The days may have been short, but blessings are large because of her presence and love in my life. Many people understand that statement because she touched so many people in this world and are truly blessed by God through Jo-Anne's ministry, her family, and friends. I Thank all family, friends, and co-workers for their prayer and on going support for myself Eli and her Son Rick and his Family. Remember during this time that Jo-Anne is in Glory with no pain, no suffering, and able to praise our Lord in a perfect form. Prsise God for that. Rejoice in her love for God and her committment to the work God had lead and blessed her, in great amounts to do. She helped form me and my son into better people than we would have been without her love, presence, and devotion in our lives. - Posted by: David Glenn (Husband) on: Apr 27, 2013
