RAE ELMA THOMAS (nee MARTIN) November 29, 1926 - May 7, 2013 Peacefully surrounded by her family, Rae passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the age of 87. Rae is predeceased by her beloved brother, Harry Alfred Martin, and her parents, Frances and Timothy Martin. Rae's presence and spirit will be sadly missed by her daughters', Marie Buchok (Roman Buchok), Patricia Lark (Frederick Lark), and Elizabeth Thomas (Doug Powell), her grandchildren, Jane Bachart (Rob Bachart), Matthew Budoloski, Beau Lark (Anna Coe), Adam Lark (Alison Seaman), Roman Alexander Buchok (Natalie Szoldra), Kathleen Wilson (Justin Wilson), Celia Buchok, and her great-grandchildren, Sophia Bachart, Kristjan Bachart, and Nola Wilson. She also leaves to mourn her late brother's wife, Dorothy Martin and children. Rae spent many years as a registered nurse, and in retirement she was busier than ever as an actor, award-winning photographer, and published author. Rae's intelligence, creativity, generosity, and sense of humour have been an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and friends who knew her well. She was a proud and devoted mother, and grandmother. Her faith provided her strength in her daily life, as well as the opportunity to volunteer in the outreach ministry with Father Henry at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, a role that she lovingly embraced. She welcomed her children and grandchildren every summer at Victoria Beach, a gift that provided lifelong memories her family will always cherish. Rae was a no-nonsense, feisty individual, with a caustic sense of humour that all will remember very fondly. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Rose Walk, Misericordia Place, for their loving care towards our mother. A memorial service is to be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Monday, May 13, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to a cause that was very close to Rae's heart, the Holy Trinity Outreach Mission, 256 Smith St., Winnipeg, MB, 204-942-7465.

  • Rae was a good friend and always there to help a young family at a moments notice, when we lived in Saskatoon, and Winnipeg. We are saddend to hear of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Nancy and Thomas Switzer - Posted by: Nancy and Thomas Switzer (Friends) on: May 12, 2013

  • Rae was my "sister" & good friend in the true sense of the word. She was always sincere & honest with the kindest of heart. She had a fabulous sense of humour, a wit second to none and a knowledge that always whooped us at mind games. She gave unselfishly & interrupted her own busy schedule to anyone who needed her help. Rae was our guardian angel for 3 solid weeks at the hospital when our family was met with a life threatening illness. She never looked for praise from her accomplishments, was gracious when life handed her lemons (most of the time :-)), remained young at heart to the end & just went about her business chalking up one accomplishment after another. As my Head Nurse several years ago, her staff loved her as she gave as much as she expected from others. I will miss our visits........a lot. - Posted by: Lynda Bowman (Sister-"out-law") on: May 11, 2013

  • Rae Thomas or Mama T as she will always be remembered by me was a very special lady in my life. She was like a mother to me as a teen-ager when her daughters (and my friends) Marie, Pat & Liz we young and foolish. I was a constant border at the house on Lanark and she would bring us coffee and ice cream to sooth our pain in the morning after our foolish ways lead us astray! She will always have a place in my heart next to my own mother. No one could ever replace Mama T. Love to my "sisters in my heart" and I still love you all! Those were the days, my friends!!! - Posted by: Barb Wilson Croft (Almost a daughter many years ago) on: May 10, 2013
